This article is very important because it evaluates online learning and the progress it has
made. This is a crucial time to take a look at what virtual learning is like because it is about to
grow. I will use what I learned in this article as a reference for what is considered effective
strategy if I ever incorporate an online component as a teacher. I am sure that this will become
more relevant as time goes on.
Advanced Placement Students in Rural Towns
The article, Supporting Online Learning for Advanced Placement Students in
Small Rural Schools talks about the interventions that can be used in small rural schools that do
not have a lot of resources for advanced placement students. The biggest shortage is in finding
teachers for advanced courses. The article looks at an online program called Facilitator
Preparation Program. The program was shown to be very successful from the study (Irvin,
Hannum, Farmer, de la Varre, Keane, 2009).
This was a very helpful article because we may not all teach in schools with the resources
to teach and challenge all of the advanced students. We can learn from this program as teachers
and apply the strategies of online learning wherever we are. I will be able to use the information
in this article to deal with possible challenges in integrating online learning into the classroom.
The article addresses very important aspects of the social impact of the classroom.
