PSII Classroom Management Plan

1. CLASSROOM LEADERSHIP
A. Building Positive Relationships
Will welcome students as they come in to the classroom, to help them feel welcome.
During students work time, will discus with them what interests they have outside of the
course so as to better understand them and make them feel appreciated.

B. Safe Caring Learning Environment

Will encourage students to ask questions constantly so as to foster a sense of inquiry
that is necessary for mathematical thinking. To continue this I will continue to ask for
word problems how the students would begin the problem.
2. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
A. Classroom Rules
1. The main rule for my classroom is simply respect. Students need to show respect for
others in the class, including myself and their peers. This takes the form of listening and not
texting while I am delivering a lesson, doing their homework, and helping others in their class.
Many of the other rules and procedures, I find can be boiled down to respect in some form or
another. Thus by having it as the general rule, that students respect myself and their fellows it is
better able to cement that in their minds. This further ties into the Coyote Character which is a
school wide initiative that strives to have the students embody the traits that are present within
the Coyote Character.
B. Procedures
1. Attention-getting procedure
Will call students and wait until everyone has their focus on myself. If students
do not shift their focus, I will wait until they do, or potentially call their name to get
their attention.
During student work time will stream a radio station for music. When work time is
done, I will turn the music off to help grab their attention that we will be moving
back to notes.
3. Question-answering procedure
Generally, will have students raise their hand and wait for me to call on them for
the answers.
If I am writing something on the board, and I miss a students hand, I am fine with
students calling out a question, so long as they are not interrupting another
student.
4. Transition procedures
Will set up the classes in the same format everyday to help establish routine for
the students for getting used to switching between work time and notes.
Will call students attention and then wait for their attention, while also turning off
the radio so that they have another oral indication.

5. Individual seatwork procedures

During their work time they are to be working on their practice questions, and if
they need help they can ask those around them, or myself. I am fine with
students moving about during that time to ask others questions, but they should
still be working throughout the time. If I find that certain students are not working,
I will attempt to keep them on track by approaching them sooner.
6. General procedures (homework, lateness, personal electronic devices, etc.)
Students will be given class time to work on their homework so that they can
receive help for these questions. Anything they do not finish during the given
class time will be due for the following day at the beginning of class.
Cell phones and other electronic devices, will be allowed in class, but if they
begin to become a distractor to the student they will be asked to be put away.
During student work time, they can use them to listen to music, but during the
actual lesson, they should not be used. If they become a problem I will ask
students to leave them on the desk until the end of the class so they do not
continue to be a problem.

C. Strategies for Responding to Inappropriate Behaviour/Failure to Adhere to Rules and

Procedures
1. The first thing I will do is to speak with the student question for any behavior. I will
discuss with them what is going on and how to work around the behavior.
2. If the issue continue I will then contact the students Advisor and other teachers to gain
additional information, and potentially develop a group plan if the issue is occurring in
other classes.
3. Following this if the issue continues I will contact the parent to explore options and
necessary requirements to succeed in students growth.
4. Will set up times with student outside of class, either during flex or after school, to go
over things to better help the student for their success.
5. If issue continues will contact Advisor and Parent again, to speak and readjust current
activities.
6. Following this will contact SAIC/Counselling for support in handling of situation, and brief
Administration in handling of situation and needs of the student.
7. Will set up C-Team meeting (meeting with administration, counselling, parents, student,
and teachers) to develop a comprehensive plan for student success.

The strategies outlined above are described by the Chinook High Schools Pyramid of
Intervention, a guide to handling issues and situations.
