Training Documents:

There were 5 Systematic Observations that the evaluation team was taught how to administer on
their delivery team. These 5 were time analysis, SOFIT, Teacher movement, Idiosyncrasies and
demonstrations. We were also instructed on how to administer the FitnessGram test.
Time Analysis: We were to rewatch the film of the teaching day and analyze every 15 seconds
and categorize it. The three options were management, instruction and activity. Management was
time where the instructor had to deal with issues like students misbehaving or getting off task(at
least 50% of the class) or moving from one activity to another. Istration was time that the teacher
spent giving out cues to the skills or was teaching how to perform the activity. Activity time was
whenever 50% or more of the students were engaged in doing whatever task was given by the
teacher. We then would tally them up at the end and total the scores of each in terms of
seconds/minutes.
SOFIT: We were to analyze every ten seconds of the film and determine whether or not the
student we were seeing on the video was engaged in Moderate to vigorous physical activity. If
the student we were watching was very engaged in the task given and was active and moving,
then we would circle the Yes box. If not, we would circle the No box. At the end, we would add
up all the Yes boxes and get a final time in minutes of how much MVPA time was recorded.
Teacher Movement: This was used every so often and was used to record how much movement
the teacher was doing. I would watch the film and record where the teacher was at given
intervals and what type of action she was doing, such as addressing the class or addressing a
group/individual. This was done as a drawing on a piece of paper, that I would then scan and
upload.
Idiosyncrasies: This was used to record how many times certain idiosyncrasies were used, such
as guys, Uh and alright, along with a few others. Every Time one was used, I would put a
tally mark down. After watching activity, I would total them up and write down how many used
per word.
Demonstrations: We were instructed to watch the activity and record whether or not there was a
demonstration for it. We would also note whether or not there was a student used and if there was
a corrective demo. Also would check for if the students could hear and see the teacher, as well as
if it was done in the correct speed and as a whole. We would either check the box or not, as well
as note what the demo was used for.
The FitnessGram was having the students perform the sit and reach, doing the pacers(running
back and forth on a audio cue) and push-ups/sit-ups. We then recorded the numbers. This was
done at the beginning and then at the end of the Tiger PRIDE unit.
