Claim: The Latino Hispanic minority is a major workforce in the United States they have

contributed to society and therefore should be treated equally and deserve all the same rights
that others in the states enjoy.
Draft:
The rights of many Hispanics and Latinos are incredibly under protected. From the unfair
wages they receive just because they are trying to support themselves and their willingness
take any job to just the flat out disrespect they receive from just being Mexican. The Hispanic
Latino minority deserve to be treated equally just like everybody else.
One place where the rights of these people, the Hispanics and the Latinos, are incredibly
overlooked is in the work place. In a report done by the North American Agreement for Labour
Cooperation they state that many people believe that the United States does not have high
labor standards (The Results...). The U.S. labor standards range from the quality of work to the
quality of the workplace. In the states, especially in places like the southern states where there
is a larger population of Hispanics and Latinos, the employees get paid very little because they
will except that kind of pay. Another reason is that the employers know that they are desperate
and they decide to exploit the fact that they will take bad pay even if that means sacrificing a
good and fair wage or clean workspaces because they are Mexican and because some people
have a set idea about what Mexicans are like.
Circumstances in which the Latino Hispanic communities have been around for a long
time. One very famous event was Cesar Chavezs civil rights movement. The farm workers of
Delano, California were protesting in order for higher and more fair wages. In protest they
marched from Delano to the California state capitol Sacramento. Many more protests followed
and they eventually gained national recognition. Eventually they got what they wanted, higher
wages (Cesar Chavez). But even though they had fought for their equal rights they still
experience unfair wages. This may be because at the time that these immigrants go to the
States they are vulnerable and desperate for any kind work for any kind of money. As
immigrants coming from lesser circumstances than many people in the U.S., these people need
help. They need help from the country they are going to in order to settle in. This way the
migrant workers would have the help to get settled and they wouldnt be as desperate and
wouldnt accept the fact are being violated.
There have been other cases where legislature has not been able to go far enough to
respect the rights of the Hispanic Latino minority is the DREAM Act. The Development Relief
and Education for Alien Minors was passed in 2001 and since then hasnt really done much.
The bill basically states that if you have lived within the United States five years prior to the bill
being passed then you are allowed conditional permanent residency. The intentions of this
specific bill are good and it accomplished a lot by allowing those who had previously be in the
U.S. to get settled. The only problem with this bill is that is does not really let others to enjoy the
benefits. For those who hadnt lived in the U.S. for up to five years they were all sent back to
Mexico. Because of this fact the bill was not as effective as it could have been. Of course I am
not saying that people should be able to cross the U.S. border whenever they please. All that is
being suggested is that there should be more done for people who want to become American
citizens. After all, when the first settlers from Europe came to America they were immigrants.

To conclude, the disenfranchised group of the Hispanics and Latinos Deserve more
equal treatment, as they have worked hard enough and been part of the American society long
enough to be considered American. In our founding document, The Declaration of
Independence, it states that all men are created equal and I believe that that applies to
everyone and not just a small portion of people.
