Illovo has multiple agricultural estates extending over its wide geographic footprint,

producing more than six million tons of sugar cane annually. The territories in which these
estates are located offer both the groups own agricultural operations and those of its
outgrower partners ideal climatic and soil conditions, accompanied by irrigation from secure
water sources which combine to ensure the cultivation of high yielding, quality sugar cane.

independent outgrowers occupying a further 112 000 hectares of land. Land farmed by our

Land farmed by our own large-scale operations and by independent commercial growers is
held under title deed or long-term leases while that cultivated by small-scale growers, is held
under tribal tenure or government-controlled land distribution systems.
Our underlying environmental philosophy is continually to investigate means to reduce the
environmental impact of our operations. Supporting Illovos Strategic Intent to maximise the
return on every stick of cane, we are particularly mindful of the possible impacts of our
operations on the use of natural resources and strive to minimise our impacts through
efficient use in a responsible and sustainable way and through committing ourselves to
continuous improvement. We strive to comply with all applicable in-country environmental
regulations and environmental management at our operations is implemented according to the
NOSA Integrated Five-Star Management System and ISO 14001. Furthermore, we have
fostered a range of initiatives to preserve ecosystem integrity, protect biodiversity and
enhance agricultural sustainability.
