Materials: Flyswatters, 2; profiles for job match activity, 1 per student; whiteboard
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to

Recognize and understand job ad vocabulary, including common short forms

Match a job seeker profile with an appropriate job ad and justify their choice

Create a job ad including necessary information and relevant vocabulary

Procedure

Welcome Ss to class, allow a few minutes for latecomers to return from break.
T plays flyswatter game with Ss, since this had to be cut from yesterdays lesson.
T writes job ad vocabulary on the whiteboard, in two sections. T divides class in
Warmer:
half, and has teams line up facing the board. T describes or gives an example of a

word from the board, and Ss must run to the board and slap the word. If correct,

the word is erased from their side and the team gets a point. The first team to
earn 15 points, wins.
T divides the class into 6 groups: A,B,C and 1,2,3. Groups 1, 2, and 3 are given a
job ad. Groups A, B, and C are given a job seeker profile. Groups must work
together to interpret their assigned profiles, and can ask T to define any
Main task: unfamiliar vocabulary. This is a mingle activity: Ss from groups 1, 2, and 3 are
Job match trying to find an employee for their job, and Ss from groups A, B, and C are
activity looking for a job that suits their job seeker profile. Groups must get together and
read their profiles. They must then discuss if they think their profiles are a good
match for each other. The activity is finished when the job seeker groups are
matched with their corresponding job ad groups, and can justify their decision.
Ss must work in groups to create a job ad that gives the following information:
What is the job title?
Is it full-time or part-time?

If time permits, T rearranges the groups to form new groups, with 1 or 2
members from each original group forming the new groups. Ss share their job
ads with their new groups.
