Violence
In the article Are Humans Initially Aggressive by Alfie Kohn states that violence is something
that The belief is that we have within us, naturally and spontaneously, a reservoir of aggressive energy.
This force, which builds up all by itself, must be periodically drained off, say, by participating in
competitive sports, lest we explode into violence. Initiating with his theory people who join in any
academic sports are likely to build that stimulation of aggressiveness because they are used to having
that reputation of anger that they build within themselves over time. Even though they cant help to
control their temper they manage to gain that control and react a certain behavior where it tides down
to having aggressiveness towards others and it becomes violent. Not only it stimulates with only sports
but in human beings as well and the type of person we are. For example, there might be people that
may get really frustrated easily and get aggressive with others where it becomes to having an argument
and lead to something negative as in violence, as with others they may not be the same as the others it
takes them time to get frustrated, it all depends on who we are and what we encounter to do with our
actions. Violence is something that we feel like its a necessity that we use to defend ourselves, even
though we dont deserve it. For example, when we are angry at someone and instead of us confronting
them about it, when we see them we get scared and run away from them its a phrase called fight or
flight. Having violence thats a natural behavior where anger leads into people that are just full of hate
it only results in violence because they have no idea how else to let it out.
In society there will always be prejudice people that will look at people a certain way and start
judging them from the beginning and thinking about negative things about them because the way their
dressed, the color of their skin, religion, ethnicity, their disability and etc. For example, in diary #11 in

the novel The Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell talks about how his professor would always pick
on him because he didnt have the ability to read, all his classmates would laugh at him and call him
stupid. Discovered he had dyslexia where it was a learning disorder where it was challenging for him
to learn as the rest of his classmates. Yet, to solve that problem he met other students that were going
through that challenge and were just like him and felt a relief and wasnt alone anymore. The fact that it
is hurting the kids feelings but its putting him in a bad situation where he is self-conscious about his
disability but also these students are being prejudice of his leaning and calling him bad names because
he isnt capable of learning the same way as the other students. Overall, these students have no write to
be prejudice of his disability because its something that is serious for a kid like him to go through a
process and the fact that he is being judged for it, its rude and disrespectful these students have no
shame and they are putting a bad example on themselves.
In addition, to causing violence it may also lead to discriminating people in the sense where they
are being judged because they are Negro and they dont have the same color as the other people. For
example, in the article Strangers in the Village by James Baldwin says that he was exposed to the
racism and name calling such as Negre by the children when he went to Switzerland. Before moving to
Switzerland he was told that he would probably be the sight for the village, meaning he would be the
only colored man in the village than the others. He explains his feelings when children are calling him
names he says But I remain as much a stranger today as I was the first day I arrived, and the children
shout Neger! Neger! As I walk along the streets. It must be admitted that in the beginning I was far to
shocked to have any real reaction. In so far as I reacted at all, I reacted by trying to have any real
reaction. In so far as I reacted at all, I reacted by trying to be pleasant it being a great part of the
American Negros education (long before he goes to school) that he must make people like him. The
way he feels has a whole lot of meaning because he feels not welcomed by others instead he feels like
he is a stranger and disrespected by others, which is why he wants to prove the children and other

people that he is just like them and a good person he has no harm at all, fairness is all he wants. In
conclusion, parents allowing their children and being taught that this provocative negativity is
acceptable to society. When in reality, they don't pertain the knowledge and views that are necessary in
having a voice in the matter. Instead, they run the streets shouting the beliefs of their parents' as
appose to coming to the realization about the fact that they have no understanding of the matter and
just keeping their mouths shut.
Thirdly, judging other people that can lead to looking a certain way because the way they are
dressed they are already giving them bad names even though they dont even know them. For example,
in the clip Easy Rider there are three men that walk in like nothing into the caf, not causing any
drama, they come to just get a cup of coffee and there are two men that start saying what the hell is
this, troublemakers and the other says throw rocks at them. These negativity people have no shame
in labeling people just because they look or are dressed a certain way, the fact that these three men are
not causing any harm to the people , the others just have nothing else better to do rather than to just
hate on people and label them for no reason and start trouble. This is something that can lead to
violence because they are picking on them and have no right in labeling them, unless they did something
to accumulate to that assumption but in this case it didnt. In fact, this would go back to being prejudice
because the way they are being judged based on their appearances and the way they are dressed when
they dont even know these three men that walk into the caf. People should stop and think before they
say things and stop labeling because it can affect someone and they will take it in and they will get
violent which becomes to being aggressive with another person.
Also, in the clip Sophies Choice she was forced to choose to keep one of her children with her
and let the other one go and be sent away from their family. The trouble of being in that position and
the officer flirting with her from the beginning trying to seduce her she took advantage and told him

that she wasnt a Jew and since he was being nice to her, she would then maybe be lucky to get help
from the officer and maybe let them escape from the concentration camps that they were going to be
sent to. The fact that the officer then was being so rude he started to become aggressive with her and
start telling her things that were very harsh. She was forced to only pick one of her child to keep with
her and the other be sent away. It became to be an argument between them both that she couldnt
choose because she loved them both very much and that she wouldnt do such a thing like that and
choose between them. They were both taken away from her and never saw them again but because she
was forced and it was an aggressive thing that the officer did to her towards the end.
Consequently, violence comes from a natural behavior where it leads to becoming aggressive
with one another and sometimes we have no other way of letting it out. Which then people feel its
needed to be used for their own reasons and situations. Also, saying any rude comments or any violent
things its not going to make anything better, better yet its going to make things worst then they have
already.
