Introduction

TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

Technology is becoming more involved in education, which is causing it to become more

available on campus. The purpose of this claim will allow my audience to acknowledge and
become informed on technology being available on campus. By analyzing this claim utilizing
two different genres as sources to support my claim it was determined that it is indeed true that
UTEP is providing a variety of technology support in order for alumni to succeed in their
courses. Both the scholarly journals and online articles support the claim that the use of
technology is becoming increased in education. The scholarly journal Integrating Technology in

Schools, Colleges, and Departments of Education: A Primer for Deans Elliott Lessen Vol. 38,
No. 2 (Mar. - Apr., 2006), pp. 44-49 provides supporting evidence that technology I being
integrated in education and it is properly becoming available on campus for student
support. Technology is being integrated in educational institutions to help students manipulate
and communicate information properly to create professional assignments. The genres will
continue to help analyze the topic and claim to be able to provide more appropriate information
on the topic.
Almost every educational institution is integrating technology use on campus and in the
classroom. UTEP has approximately 1,500 computers available in over 40 computer labs.
Having this numerous amount of computers available for student access definitely should be
informed to students so they can always be aware that the technology is available. Details and
information on where exactly the computer labs are available for use can be easily found on the
university's website.
Audience and Purpose

TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

The intended audience for this genre analysis is primarily for UTEP alumni and staff. The fact
that they will become informed on where they can locate technology support will help students
create professional and successful assignments. The audience for this genre analysis will also be
gaining knowledge on emotions that are being demonstrated through the scholarly journals and
online articles. Emotions that are being portrayed through the genres are emotions of knowledge
and excitement. UTEP alumni should definitely increase their knowledge on where they can go
on campus to take advantage of the technology available for students.
Although this seems to be magnificent as I researched through scholarly journals I came across a
certain journal concerning a few educators not being completely satisfied with education
becoming a tool to improve learning in their classrooms. Technology becoming a priority in a
course does include pros and cons however most individuals will agree with having technology
as a tool to help them success in their courses. The uneasiness of the educators that do not agree
with technology being a part of education are mostly concerned due to the fact that technology is
upgrading and it could potentially make teachers unnecessary. Talking typewriters and other
novel devices and methods make up this new technology which according to the revolution
prophets, sooner or later will transform the public school as we know it. According to Carter
(1966) Science, Technology in the Schools: Educators Are Uneasy (p.1624).
Educators at UTEP seem to not be alarmed with technology becoming a teaching tool.
Communicating with students online is certainly what seems to be working with faculty and
alumni at the university.
Rhetorical Issues
Selecting two different genres to analyze the topic on technology being integrated helped

TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

discover that technology involved in education as a tool to improve teaching and learning
creates emotions on the individuals being educated on the topic. The emotions that seem to
be taking place in the lives on educators and students at UTEP regarding technology being
available all over campus so students can success in their courses are emotions of assurance
that they will be successful in their courses. The emotions portrayed through the genres
selected definitely do support and create a credibility on the topic by the detailed
information that is provided for the reader. Both genres provide evidence of both opinions
and facts by providing details on how individuals express their feelings on technology being
a part of education and how it will continue to be integrated in the classroom. These details
are included in both scholarly journals and online articles to manipulate the readers
credibility on the way individuals are currently accepting technology being integrated in
the styles of teaching by educators. They are purposely included because they expect
readers to create a personal opinion on how they accept technology as a tool to increase
learning.
The two genres are fully detailed with different opinions taken by all staff members and
alumni on campus not only at UTEP but also all over the country. The fact that technology
is becoming extremely popular and is upgrading completely constantly it is gaining
acceptance by most educational institutions and their students and teachers. This
demonstrates how the information obtained from the two different types of genres used to
analyze the topic significantly helped find similarities between both genres with both agreeing on
educating and entertaining the reader.
Structure and Delivery
The genres that were selected to provide information on technology being involved

TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

significantly in education portray details on how it is affecting alumni and educators. The
scholarly journals shape their information strictly on providing information on the feelings
both students and teachers have on technology being involved in their learning process.
The visual aids they provide starting with the layout of the journals are full complete
paragraphs informing the audience on the topic. The structure that is used to put together
the scholarly journal certainly helps out the genre due to the fact that the information
follows a fluent and organized process. Technology more than likely will certainly continue
to be utilized to help improve education. Scholarly journals will also continue to be used to
provide information on technology influencing education for the well structured
information they present.
The online articles provide their visual aids by utilizing pictures concerning the topic. They
also inform the audience the main points of the topic by following a fluent sequence of
events due to the fact that online articles provide more accurate information on the topic
rather than providing information on the feelings towards the topic. The online articles can
be similar to scholarly journals in the way that they both inform the readers on the
opinions that individuals take on the topic but are different in the way that online articles
inform readers on specific events or details concerning the topic.
Bothe the scholarly journals and online articles are able to provide information on the
attitudes taken by UTEP educators and alumni towards technology being integrated in
education on the courses that are becoming hybrid.
Conclusion
Both genres provided information on technology becoming an important part on this

TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

change educational institutions are taking with having technology support become a
priority in college courses. UTEP has technology support primarily to benefit students and
educators so they can both share a clear online communication. Technology support
employees encourage students to take advantage of all the technology that is available for
them and are certainly always available to provide any support required so students can
use the technology. The online articles that provided the information on the technology
available on campus included photographs of what the computer labs include representing
a visual example of what faculty and students can take advantage of when they give the
computer labs a visit for any type of technology assistance.
The scholarly journals provided more extensive details on what the effect of integrating
technology has provoked on educational institutions. As technology has been both received and
denied in educational institutions it is going to be part of education because it being upgraded to
help education succeed. UTEP is one of the universitys that definitely accepts and continues to
welcome technology on campus and on courses.
In conclusion online articles helped create a wider analysis on the topic of technology taking a
big part of todays education. Gathering information on two different genres that are considered
to be helpful sources for the topic provided a wide variety of support and information for
students that seem to be poorly informed on all the technology support that is available for them
right at the comfort of their campus. UTEP continues to increase the amount of technology they
currently have so students can be encouraged to take advantage of the support that is available.
