Abusing Ones Power for the Worst
Throughout history a group of individuals have always experienced racism, yet
many around the world do not know what is going on and are simply clueless about what
is happening among their communities or around the world. Arial Sharon, a politician
and general who served during World War II stated, The sad and horrible conclusion is
that no one cared that Jews were being murdered This is the Jewish lesson of the
Holocaust and this is the lesson which Auschwitz taught us (brainyquote.come). Many
Jewish families had to go through such discrimination during the early 1930s until the
mid 1940s. For a long period of time these individuals were victims of segregation and
the abuse of power. The political cartoon Hitler Seeks Jobs for All Germans, created by
Rollin Kirby and published in the New York Times on July 1933 emphasizes Hitlers
crucial decisions and the life style Jews had to live in during the Holocaust. The purpose
of the image is to demonstrate the great power Adolf Hitler had of Germany and the
Jews.
The political cartoon demonstrates the camera being up-close to the picture,
emphasizing Adolf Hitlers power in a below angle formation. Hitler is looking away
from the camera as if he knew what he was doing was wrong, but didnt care about the
consequences and the lifes that had to be taken away to show the public of the amount of
power he has. The picture uses black and white colors. The black color can highlight the

darkness he had brought into the Jews life and the white can represent the false hope he
had for its people meaning giving them false statements. He was brain washing the
public by giving them false statements stating he was going to help them economically
and give peace to Germany, but all he did was create corruption among Germany. Hitler
is holding two pieces of wood, which are on fire. Fire can always represent untamed
authority and action, which Hitler allegedly has. Hitler is posing as if he has power over
everyone; he is above the land (Germany) that can be interpreted as if he was superior
power over Germany. The imagine also emphasizes the words race hatred and
repression. The letters are italicized and bold. They can both mean the hatred he is
creating among Germans and Jews among each other when he uses the word race
hatred as well as when he uses repression because he is manipulating the people into
doing what he wants them to do for his own benefit due to the fact that its written on a
stick which can always be represented as a weapon. The emotional reaction I have of this
picture is simply shame, sadness, and despair because of ones peoples hatred towards
another race lead to many deaths.
The political cartoon, Hitler Seeks Jobs for All Germans sends out a racist
connotation due to the fact that its Hitler above Germany and stating race hatred as
well as repression, which both have a negative connotation. It emphasizes racism
because Adolf Hitlers main priority was to eliminate all the Jewish people in order for
the Germans to gain more power and wealth, but by doing so he had to eliminate the Jews
since they were supposedly the one who were taking away all the good jobs from the
Germans. The message the cartoon is sending out is simply the abuse of power of one
individual whom used it for the wrong reasons. Hitler created the Nazi group to abolish

all Jews and send them to concentration camps or simply have them murdered in the gas
chambers. In the concentration camps Jews were treated as if they were animals. They
were poorly fed, lived in horrible conditions, worked till they died, and they were
exposed to many diseases that also caused them to pass away. Before the Jews were sent
out to concentration camps they had to wear a Jewish symbol, which made them stood
out the most because Germans were able to tell who was Jewish and who wasnt. Despite
the negativity the political cartoon was sending out; racism and the abuse of power one
individual had of numerous individuals was absorb, but brought great attention to the
public because it accentuated the cruel decisions Hitler was doing in Germany, which
grabbed attention to many other countries.
Political cartoons are sometimes used to help the public have more of a visual
understanding of what was happening during a certain time period. Its a great way to
understanding of what was happening during a certain time period. Its a great way to
demonstrate a struggle such as the Holocaust, but many of these political cartoons contain
a severe amount of racist comments and messages. Many of them are used to entertain
the audience, while using racism which is something that must be prohibited because its
still an act of racial acceptance when one agrees with the message its sending out. Just
like political cartoons are used to send out a message so are articles. Many articles talk
and give various examples of stereotypes and racism among society.
In comparison to the political cartoon, the text The Harmful Myth of Asian
Superiority, written in 1990 by Ronald Takaki, discusses the myth of how Asian
Americans are considered to be the model minority. Takaki states how because of all
the myths society has put in Asian Americans it has created a huge gap among other

races. He emphasizes how African Americans are a minority as well, yet they have an
extreme amount of drop out rates, criminal charges, etc. He questions the fact of why
they cant make it as well just like Asians Americans have. Society has categorized
Asians and African Americans in different social categories it has brought hatred among
all races towards Asian Americans. Takaki states, Most Asian Americans know their
success is largely a myth (Takaki 156). The reason in which he states this is because
many Asian Americans arent successful, many of them dont have great jobs nor
receive a proper education. Society stereotypes them, making them seem as a superior
minority group. The text by Ronald Takaki, doesnt only emphasizes the stereotypes
Asian Americans have, but also it contains many racial content as well. For example he
states, If Asian American can make it, many politicians and pundits ask, why cant
African Americans? Such comparisons put minorities against each other and generate
African American resentment towards Asian Americans. The victims are blamed for their
plight, rather than racism and an economy that had made many young African American
workers superfluous (Takaki 155). This quote illustrates how society is using the Asian
American community, as a way to cover up all the racism that is happening is humanity.
They create a gap between all races making one seem superior to the rest, which seems to
be the new norm now a days. Just like Hitler was categorizing the Jews, society has
been categorizing every race by the stereotypes they have, which is a form of
segregation because their separating minority groups from each other creating a huge gap
between them. The political cartoon relates to Takakis statements due to the fact that
Takaki emphasizes the great amount of power one minority group has among the rest
just like Hitler had of the Jewish community; he was superior to them making the Jews

believe they were worth nothing. Racism can be defined in many ways. Not only can it
mean separation among races, but also verbal, physical, and emotional racism.
The Holocaust brought an extreme amount of racisms towards the Jews. Many
were being killed or put into work labor while others were running away trying to escape
Hitler and the Nazi. The Holocaust was not the only event in history that sent out racism
to a specific race. Adolf Hitler managed to abuse his power of Germany and the Jews for
the worst. Racism has been part of society for generations and will continue to be part of
it for the upcoming generations. Its a cycle that has not been broken.
