AGENDAS FOR THE WEEK:

Dec 1st Dec 5th

MONDAY
Objective(s): SWBAT
*Explain the organization
levels of cells
*Give an example of a tissue,
organ, and organ system
*Discuss with their peers the
importance of combining
different types of cells in an
organ system

TUESDAY
Objective(s): SWBAT
*Describe the different levels of
organization
*State the hierarchy of cellular
organization
*Name and describe the
organelles in a cell

SC.6.L.14.4

SC.912.L.14- Life can be

organized in a functional and
structural hierarchy ranging
from cells to the biosphere. Most
multicellular organisms are
composed of organ systems
whose structures reflect their
particular function.

P
L

Objective(s): SWBAT
*Describe what Biogenesis is
*Give an example of an
influential experiment to
disprove spontaneous
generation
*Name the structure and
function of cell organelles

NGSSS:

WEDNESDAY

Engage
(5 minutes)
The teacher will ask the
students to explain what
materials we would need to
build up a house, some answers
should be cement, bricks,
woods, metal sticks, etc. Then
the teacher will explain that
just like a house is made up of
many different types of
materials our organs are made
of many types of cells as well.

Engage
(5 minutes)
The teacher will show a video of
the levels of cellular
organization and ask the students
to give an example an organ
system and its levels of
organizations

Explore
(20 minutes)
The teacher will have the
students create a foldable that
resembles the picture shown.
She will have the students use

Explore
(35 minutes)
The students will complete a
review sheet for their upcoming
test that will include everything
from cellular organization levels

NGSSS:
SC.6.L.14.4-Compare and
contrast the structure and
function of major organelles of
plants and animals cells,
including cell wall, cell
membrane, nucleus,
cytoplasm, chloroplast,
mitochondria, and vacuoles.
SC.6.N.1.5-realize that science
involves creativity

Engage
(5 minutes)
The teacher will ask them to
name the difference between
plant and animal cells

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

Objective(s): SWBAT
* State the thee tenants of the
Cell Theory
*Define biogenesis
*Define spontaneous
generation

Objective(s): SWBAT
*State the parts of a
compound microscope
*Name the role of the parts of
the microscope
*Use a microscope to clearly
focus an image

NGSSS:
SC.6.L.14.4-Compare and
contrast the structure and
function of major organelles
of plants and animals cells,
including cell wall, cell
membrane, nucleus,
cytoplasm, chloroplast,
mitochondria, and vacuoles.
SC.6.N.1.5-realize that
science involves creativity

Engage
(10 minutes)
The teacher will ask the
students to name the three
tenants of the Cell Theory,
describe the functions of some
organelles, and to compare
and contrast the animal and
plant cell.

NGSSS:
SC.912.L.14.4- compare and
contrast the structure and
function of a microscope

Engage
(5 minutes)
The teacher will ask them to
think back to how we
discussed the cells were
discovered, and ask them to
think of what was necessary
to discover cells.

She will also answer any

questions the students may
regarding material for test.
Explore
(20 minutes)
The teacher will hold a
question-based review. Using a
PowerPoint. The partners with
the most questions right, will

their books to figure out the

levels of cellular organization
and describe each level.
AS the students are working
she will walk around and ask
questions about each level and
what each level consists of.

Explain
(15 minutes)
The teacher will have two
students trade their foldable
(they can choose who). Once
they trade they will be directed
to examine the foldable and
read the information for 3
minutes. Then, they will be
instructed to compare
information in their foldable
and make or add any
differences to their own
foldable.
Next the teacher will discuss
with the class each level of
organization and correct any
misconceptions or add
information to their foldable.

to cell organelles and their

functions.
They will be able to work with
their table partners or alone and
may use their books to answer
the questions.
Explain
No separate explanation, but as
the teacher walks around she
will answer any questions the
students have and address any
misconception to specific
students. If there is a general
misconception (anything more
than 2 students are having issues
with) she will address the
question as a class.

receive a prize.

As a class we will discuss the

parts of the microscope and
after we have briefly
discussed them, they will be
given a specimen.
The students must focus their
specimen and draw a picture
of what they see.

Explain
(10 minutes)
The teacher will explain any
misconceptions that occurred
during the game/review, it will
be occurring as the review is
happening.
Elaborate
(10 minutes)
The students will be given a
sheet of paper and be asked to
draw a plant cell with all its
organelles and label them.

Explain
(10 minutes)
Each student will have a
different specimen (dead
insects) and so we will have
the two partners switch seats
and look through the
microscope of their partner.
As a class we will discuss the
importance of microscopes
and the different types of
microscopes: compound,
electron, and dissecting
microscopes. We will discuss
the different sources of each
microscope and what can be
viewed through each.

Elaborate
(5 minutes)
The teacher will ask the students
to create a foldable using the
sheet she will pass out, they
must write down how clear the
information they are learning is
and how fast the teacher is
moving. They must indicate if
the material is unclear to them.

Elaborate
Good-bye party the last 15
minutes of class.

Elaborate
(5 minutes)
The teacher will ask the
students to think of an organ
system and name some
different types of cells that
would be needed to make up
that system. They will then
share with the class.

Evaluate and Summary

(5 minutes)
The students will have an exit
slip

Evaluate and Summary

(5 minutes)
The students will be asked to
share anything they found
interesting about cellular
organization or something that
they didnt know before.

Evaluate and Summary

(5 minutes)
I used to think but now I know:
The students will write down 2
statements that they sued to
think was correct, but now
have changed their minds
about.
