Worksheet Chapter 1
List and describe two (2) characteristics of a successful secondary
physical education program as discussed in Chapter 1. Be prepared to
share your responses in class.
1. A characteristic of a successful secondary physical education class
program is that a positive learning environment exists. Students need to
be able to feel comfortable in their physical education class. If they can
not feel comfortable they will not want to participate in any of the
activities. They also need to be motivated. Good teachers will give
feedback and make the students want to do well in class. Enthusiasm is
another behavior that good teachers will use in a positive learning
environment. By showing your students that you enjoy what you are
teaching and are passionate about it, it will make the students more
likely to want to engage in the activity.
2. Another characteristic of a successful secondary physical education
class program is the use of modified team sports. Having these modified
activities will get the students excited for a new challenge. Students may
get a little bored of the old traditional five on five basketball game, so
bringing in new team sports such as ultimate frisbee will allow the
students to work on their cooperation skills and will also be learning new
sets of rules to games. Learning new rules will allow students to think of
ways that they can make variations of differents sports so that they can
continue to challenge themselves and develop a positive attitude
towards physical activity.
