LO3:
The documentation linked to the production will be full and detailed and there will be
evidence that the production management and scheduling of the project has been effective
and carried out in a professional manner. The techniques used in the production of the work
are likely to be related to an understanding of current trends in the industry.
Planning
Brainstorm / mind map (add extra pages if necessary)
Risk assessment: Are there any health and safety issues you may encounter?
When using artificial lights I must make sure not to come into contact with the bulbs
because otherwise I might burn myself. If I drop anything , I will have to pick it up
properly otherwise I might hurt myself. When moving tables around to create my set I
will have to get someone to move them with me.
Discuss any legal issues you may face. Eg; sound, plagiarism, age restrictions
As I am using music , I will have to send an email to the record company asking for
permission to use there song. If they say yes I must make it clear to give links to the
artists work and logos from the band and the record label.
What are the different possibilities you could explore using this format?
With stop frame techniques you could use a wide range of models , like morph the tv show
they use a stop motion clay figure and move him around , this is good because its relatively
cheap to make and anyone can do this. Using found objects could be good so you wouldnt
have to make them for your set. For example if you were making an icering for the ice you
could use shards of glass.
What are the limitations of using this format? (i.e what problems/ obstacles might you
have?)
One limitation of stop motion is thats its diffecult to get the correct speed then make it
consistent , its also very hard to make it fluid if you do not use the correct timeframe and
plan it out.
What imaginative or inventive animations have you seen which use this format?
Add in links and screen shots of three examples of animations using this format.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxsBSZMgowA
This uses stop motion in this 2 minute video it contains 25 shots a second, this person has
planned out there shots and where they want their characters to be every second. This is a
very professional video , it runs so smoothly like its an actual video and its runs at a normal
speed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acFZs7TNcOU
This stop motion is terrible , it contains around 1 shot a second and does not flow
whatsoever , it is also very corny. However , I like the stop motion style of the moustache
moving around her face and thats what I will do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlV0ySXukmA
This video contains stop motion and the use of props, I like the fact that they use household
items to look like beards. In this video they have taken photos of the person with be beard ,
and the pencil draws them on. This is very cleaver because I like the effect that that the
pencil is rubbing out his beard and drawing a new one on/
Subject
What will the subject of your animation be?
My animation will be a comical advert about MOVEMBER
Storyline
Describe the storyline of your animation. What events will happen to your characters?
My animation will be about a man who has to shave off his moustache. Whenever he moves
the razor to his moustache, the moustache moves around his face. The moustache doest
want to be shaved as it wants to be growed for movember.
Characters
What characters will be in your animation?
I will have myself as a character. I will also have a moustache called tasha. The moustaches
will be brought from ebay and will be blond.

Movement of characters
-----------
Mood board
Create a mood board showing what look your animation will have. Add images showing
ideas of mise-en-scene, characters, costumes and colours that will be present in the
different shots.
Sets / backgrounds
Will your set be;
A blue/green screen
An existing location
Draw sketches of how your sets/backgrounds will look. Add in labels to your diagrams and
details of locations / lighting etc.
Complete the sound list, detailing what sounds you will use, where you will source them,
what equipment you will need to record them and when you will use them in your animation.
You will need to design your own soundtrack. You cannot use copyrighted music, and it
must be more than simply adding a track.
Think of the scenes in your animation. Each scene should have different sounds/music to
give information about the mood / emotions of the characters.

Define the following characteristics of your audience;
Gender

Interests
Drinking beer and playing football.
How will you ensure that your animation will suit your chosen audience?
I will ensure that my advert is suitable for my audience because all men have moustaches.
Emphasis on MEN
How will they physically watch your animation? (i.e in an exhibition format, on screen,
projection, online?)
My animation can be viewed on YouTube as well as before a football match. It will also
mention about movember.

Frame Rates
What is the duration of your animation in minutes? (minimum 30 seconds)
In seconds?

14
There are 60 seconds in a minute. How many frames (ie. Individual photos) will you
need to take?

Lighting Design
Where will you place your light source(s) to create interesting effects?
My lights sort of have a white/blueish glow. This will give the effect that its late at night
because they are very dim colored lights. They give out just enough light to brighten up my
bathroom and keep some areas of my bathroom darker. I like the atmosphere it creates in
my bathroom.
(LO3)
Frame numbers
You will need to label your images as frames
The first 24 frames will be written as;
0_1
0_2 etc etc
Dope sheets
A dope sheet is an animation tool which helps a animator organise the animation shot-byshot.
This gives the camera operator instructions on each shot type and how many frames this will
be used for.
A dope sheet is usually split into 5 different sections.
For example;
Because you will be working with video, you will be using 30fps. You will need to complete a
dope sheet for EVERY SECOND of your animation.
i.e, if you make a 30 second animation, you will need to complete 30 dope sheets.
This will be a time-consuming task, but it will help you understand what will need to
happen in each of the shots you take. The higher marks will come from a detailed and
careful collection of dope sheets. For example, if your characters speaks, you will need to
show the mouth forming every shape in order to look effective.
