Name of Artifact: Reflections
Date of Artifact: Fall 2014
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01
Rationale Statement:
This overall compilation of this artifact was derived from my
experiences as a student observer. This is the second time I have had
the experience at the same HS, and like the first time I have learned
many things about myself, the career, students, and the politics behind
being a teacher. Although, I am still uncertain of what subject matter or
grade level I want to teach I am certain that pursuing a career in
teaching is just for me. The artifact is a compilation of blogs that
discuss several different topics ranging from personal opinion to
assigned topics.
This artifact exemplifies statement 9 in several ways. Being in a
school to learn about the environment and relationships between a teacher, their students
and their colleagues in ways that matter to me is the essence of standard 9.1.2, which
reads The teacher engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning
experiences aligned with his or her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and
system. In my last reflection, I discuss my understanding of a need to reflect and assess
my growth and learning, however I also strongly state that writing is not a good way for
me to reflect. This speaks directly to standard 9.2.3 that states, The teacher knows how
to build and implement a plan for professional growth directly aligned with his or her
needs as a growing professional using feedback from teacher evaluations and
observations, data on learner performance, and school- and system- wide priorities. Not
only do my reflections discuss my plans for future, and reflect my experiences as student
observations, they also reveal my desires to adjust my biases. This speaks to standard
9.3.2 that states, The teacher is committed to deepening understanding of his or her
own frames of reference (for example, culture, gender, language, abilities, and ways of
knowing), the potential biases in these frames, and their impact on expectations for and
relationships with learners and their families. In conclusion, I know that personal
reflection and growth are very important parts of becoming a professional.
