TEACHER
INFORMATION
MATHEMATICS
This year at HTHCV, we will be reinforcing these mathematical skills through a new lens,
which we call the 4 Cs of mathematics. These are Courageousness, Curiousness,
Creativity, and Communication. Mathematics provides a medium to develop these
qualities, however, these are not limited to the math classroom; they can be extended
to other classes as well as other parts of life. We hope students are able to expand on
these qualities throughout their high school career and beyond.

The Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to
you free of charge. Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education
means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies,
equipment or uniforms for any school activity.
SUGGESTED
MATERIALS
Many families have been asking what supplies their child may need during this school
year. Below, I have a recommended list of supplies that your child may bring to
school. Please note that if your child does not bring the recommended supplies, the
school will provide the supplies for him/her. If you have any questions/comments about
this, please contact me, or Lillian Hsu, our school director. Thanks.
INTERNSHIPS
SAT / ACT
All High Tech High juniors are required to complete an internship at a local organization.
The internship consists of an orientation followed by a four week, full-time immersion at
the work site from May 11, 2015 to June 5, 2015. Students receive credit for successfully
completing their internship and related academic course work. Students are
responsible for finding and securing their internships as well as finding appropriate
transportation to and from their site. The staff at High Tech High Chula Vista will assist
each student during this process to ensure a positive internship experience. If you any
questions/comments about the internship program, please contact me, or Lisa Davis,
our Director of Community Partnerships
Students will be encouraged to take the SAT and/or ACT exams during their Junior year.
Please note that this course is not specifically designed to prepare students for
standardized tests alone. However, in covering the content of the course we will be
discussing many topics seen on the SAT and/or ACT exams. For more specific SAT and/or
ACT information and test dates, please visit www.collegeboard.org
GUIDELINES FOR
BEHAVIOR
HONORS CREDIT
Math III may be taken for honors credit. This would entail students taking a rigorous
approach to deepening their understanding of various mathematical concepts.
Students will meet once a week during lunch to get any materials and information
needed to complete the honors assignments. There will be additional homework and
assessments that are required of students who take the class for honors credit. If
interested, you and your parent/guardian will be asked to sign an honors contract that
will be given before the third week of the semester.
