Wixie Project Lesson Plan

Lesson Objective: Students will use Wixie to create an informative lesson about the letter i in
order to present the information to a younger student.

Lesson Description: This lesson involves students using Wixie to create a 3-page lesson about
the sounds of the letter i. Directions and explanations for this lesson are delivered to the
students through screencast videos made by the teacher. Students work on one page of their
Wixie lesson per day for three days. On the fourth day, the students use their Wixie lesson to
teach a younger student about the letter i.
Materials:
Screencast videos explaining directions
Wixie project template
Wixie Lesson Student Checklist
Lesson Preparation:
Each day, assign the screencast video for that day through BCPSOne
Assign Wixie project to students
Copy student checklists
Day One: (Lesson time: Approx. 20 minutes)
1. Students watch the screencast video for Day 1
2. Students complete page 1 of their Wixie lesson
a. Page 1 requires students to type 4 short i words and find 2 pictures from the
stickers that have the short i sound.
3. Students complete checklist for page 1 when finished

Day Two: (Lesson time: Approx. 20 minutes)


1. Students watch the screencast video for Day 2
2. Students complete page 2 of their Wixie lesson
a. Page 2 requires students to type 4 long i words and find 2 pictures from the stickers
that have the long i sound.
3. Students complete checklist for page 2 when finished
Day Three: (Lesson time: Approx. 20 minutes)
1. Students watch the screencast video for Day 3
2. Students complete page 3 of their Wixie lesson
a. Page 3 requires students to create a sort for short i and long i pictures and words.
They are asked to find 2 short i pictures, 2 long i pictures, 1 short i word and 1 long
i word.
3. Students complete checklist for page 3 when finished
Day Four: (Lesson time: Approx. 30 minutes)
1. Kindergarten students visit the classroom
2. Pair a first grader with a kindergarten tech buddy
3. The first grader uses the first two pages of their Wixie lesson to teach the kindergartner
about the sounds that the letter i makes.
4. The third page is completed by the kindergartner with help from the first grader. The
student sorts the pictures and words into the correct category for either short i or long
i.
