How Caete Got Its Name

Eleven kilometers away from the town proper of Amlan and three kilometers from the
barangay proper of Jantianon is sitio Caete. It is bounded on the east by sitio Badiang,
Jantianon, and on the west side by sitio Linogan, San Miguel, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
In the olden times, the place was blessed with abundant trees which were good for
lumber. The old folks main source of living is farming. Aside from it, they also learn logging
when a certain logger, Mr. Caete went to the place to buy good quality lumber for furnitures.
From that time on, people in the locality were always looking for Mr. Caete to sell their goods
and even those who are coming from the neighboring places look forward to negotiate with him.
The surname Caete became known in the community and people in the barrio always say in the
vernacular adto ta sa ka Caete until such time the place was known Caete and thats how
Caete came to be.

COMMUNITY PROFILE
Jantianon is one of the largest of the eight barangays in the Municipality of Amlan. It is
situated in the northwest of the town proper and bounded by baranagy Silab in the east, barangay
Bio-os in the north-northeast, barangay San Miguel of Tanjay City in the west and some
barangay in the Municipality of Pamplona in the southwest. It has a total land area of 22,820,000
sq. meters. The largest part is hilly. It is 8.2 kilometers away from Poblacion and the approximate
travel time is 30 minutes. The means of access to this barangay are roads, trails and footpaths. It
has four puroks namely Purok I-Nangka, Purok II-Mangga, Purok III-G-Melina and Purok IVMahogany.

Economy

The total land area of barangay Jantianon is 22,820,000 sq. meters. The largest part of its
land is hilly. The soil is fertile loam and is suited for planting vegetables, corn, coconut, cassava,
pineapple and sugar cane.
The total number of labor force in barangay Jantianon is 1,383 at about 60% of the total
population. Along this only 8% are employed and 15% who are underemployed. Some are
engaged in business other livelihood project.

The table shows that farming is the main source of income of the people in Jantianon. It
tells that people should have to work hard in order to have additional income for the family. They
will have to work in the sugar cane plantation for a living. Some have to raise cows, goat, pig
and other livestock to earn a living.

The table shows that 100% of crops and animal products were brought to the market,
while others for consumption. It shows that Jantianon is an agricultural barangay.
Agriculture is the main source of living. Folks have to pay their taxes as source of local
funds. There are about 95% of household in the barangay whose income is less than Php
20,000.00 a year.

SCHOOL PROFILE

Caete Elementary School was formally opened last June 28, 1995. This learning institution
was currently manned by five regular teachers, two locally paid, and one kindergarten teacher.
The school was headed by a Teacher-In-Charge. It has one 2 CL FVR Building, one 2 CL TEEP
Building, and one 1 CL DPWH Building. To sum up, it has 5 instructional classrooms.

BEST PRACTICES
The teachers have undergone in service training and seminars. In service training were
done during semestral break and summer. LAC session were done every last Friday of the
month. School level Classroom Evaluation were conducted regularly. Homeroom Parent-Teacher
Conference and Card Distribution were conducted every quarter to assess pupils performance.
Monthly activities were properly observed. School Contests were intensified in selecting pupils
to be the contestants in all District Level Competition. The school participated all District
Activities.
Solicitations were made and accounted through Adopt-a-school Program. Donations were
properly documented and reported by the school coordinator mothly and quarterly especially
during Brigada Eskwela Month and other school activities that need financial support.
The school received local funds from the municipality to repair the dilapidated stage
destroyed by the typhoon Pablo and other needs of the school. The BLGU allocate funds for
school fencing. The MOOE were properly utilized by the school to maximize returns and
benefits. All funds received were properly liquidated and accounted.
