Who would be the audience for your media product?

What is a target audience? A target audience refers to the specific group you are aiming at.

Our production The Challenge has a BBFC certification of 15. We chose 15 this age rating
because we read over the BBFC criteria and found that the narrative of our media product
closely matched the specification of the BBFC 15 age rating specification. For example;
portrayals of sexual nudity and strong language. We also thought that at the age of 15 you
re mature enough to understand what is going on in the film and that it is not to be
imitated. In addition we also thought that age 12 is too young to be viewing such scenes of
violence and is more likely to be imitated by younger viewers.
As a group we decided to make to make our overall target audience 15-48 we chose this
target audience because it gave us a vast range and a mass audience to relate our film to,
we also found that people of this age are more likely to enjoy horror or thriller films rather
than family or documentary films.
We havent aimed our film at any specific ethnicity because the film will be open to be
viewed by the general public. We also feel like we have no specific socioeconomic group
because our film is mainly going to be watched by people who are interested in films of the
thriller or horror genres.
To make our film appeal to our target audience it will be advertised on all channels
excluding channels dedicated to childrens programming and at times when certain channels
have childrens TV shows on. We will also advertise on social media such as Facebook and
Twitter ensuring that word gets out about our film. We will also use the data we collect
from our questionnaires to view the perspective interest in our film, as this will give us a
stronger idea of the sort of person who is looking to watch our film. Our film will also be
advertised during the trailers before films, which match the same genre as our film.
