Euchre Holiday Party

The holiday party will be held on December 10th, so please mark your calendars and plan on attending! We will
be combining the two euchre groups. This year we are having a "build-a-salad" luncheon with each
member contributing to the salad. We will be sending out emails in early December with the list of items we
will need to complete our salads. And...your hostesses will be providing a very special, scrumptious dessert!
What a fun way to begin the holiday season! I hope you all can attend.

First Thursday Canasta

What a wonderful day we spent at Dorothy Garsson's lovely home! She served a delicious lunch with
all different kinds of salads, fruit, vegetables and her most fabulous homemade cookies. After stuffing
ourselves, we proceeded to play one of our favorite games. The winners were: #1 Dorothy Garsson;
#2 Bev Blue; #3 Judy Lasky; #4 Marianne Sullivan and most of you who play canasta will not believe
this-------Sally Richardson got the booby. I honestly think, that in the 12 years I have been playing
in this group, that has never happened before. What a shock!
Our next game will be on Thursday, December 4th, at Bev Blue's home. Because this is our Holiday
Party, the time will be different. We are starting at 11:00 AM. Also, we will be asking all to bring a
dish to pass (No desserts, please). We will not be exchanging gifts.
Please notify Bev, with the name of your sub, if you are not able to play.

OUR Wonderful November luncheon

PNCs own Roberta Rosen, a very talented, humorous

& charming speaker & demonstrator.

Those members who attended the November luncheon had a special treat. In addition to a great lunch provided by Blue
Mesa, there was a special tasting after lunch that was super delicious.
Our speaker, PNC's VP Luncheons, Roberta Rosen, regaled the members with interesting, and often hilarious, anecdotes
from her past life as a caterer while demonstrating how to make two very easy recipes with us. Roberta, who came
prepared, shared the finished product of her recipes with those who were at the luncheon. There was a fantastic smoked
salmon mousse, beautifully decorated (see photo to left), followed by scrumptious cheese Danish squares. We also
learned some catering tips for home use, like how to wrap cheese so it keeps longer and how to make tomato roses. It
was an afternoon of fun, food and good company.
An honorarium, donated in Roberta's name, was sent to her favorite charity, Share Our Strength/Nokidhungry.

ACTIVITIES

BOOK CLUB

Please join us as Roz Wiener reviews The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin on Monday, November 24th at 10:15
AM. We always meet on the 4th Monday of the month at Highland Springs (SE corner of Frankford and Coit.)
When Anne Morrow, a shy college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas
with her family, she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic.
Enthralled by Charles's assurance and fame, Anne is certain the aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is
wrong. Charles sees in Anne a kindred spirit, a fellow adventurer, and her world will be changed forever. The two
marry in a headline-making wedding. In the years that follow, Anne becomes the first licensed female glider pilot in
the United States. But despite this and other major achievements, she is viewed merely as the aviator's wife. The
fairy-tale life she once longed for will bring heartbreak and hardships, ultimately pushing her to reconcile her need for
love and her desire for independence, and to embrace, at last, life's infinite possibilities for change and happiness.
Book Club will not meet in December. However, if you would like to get started on Januarys book, we will be reviewing The Man by Irving Wallace.
