Media Literacy Project

January 7th, 2015

Create a commercial to sell a product that does not exist. First decide on your own unique
product, then create a brand and think about your target audience. Think about what
advertising techniques you want to use to sell your product. Then work with your group to
create skit to sell your product to your target audience. Think about the setting, the costumes,
and the music you would like to include. Be as creative as possible. You can use your mobile
device to record your commercial then email it to me as file to share with the class. It should
NOT be more than 30 seconds long. Your completed commercial will be viewed by the class on

Your commercial MUST include:

A product
A brand or logo
A clear idea of who the target audience is
Implicit and explicit messages
Use at least 2 advertising techniques discussed in class
No more than 30 seconds

The audience will need to be able to answer the following questions when watching your
commercial:
1. Who is the target audience?
2. What brand is the commercial made for?
3. What is the commercial trying to get the audience to do?
4. What is the explicit message in the commercial?
5. What is the implicit message in the commercial?
6. What emotions does the commercial want the audience to have?
