he describes in his Golden Ass, and in which matriarchal
psychology becomes masculine experience. But another
reason why with Apuleius the experience of religious
initiation became the personal experience of the man is
that he was one of those creative men who, like the
feminine, must give birth, one of those "whom Psyche
guides."
