Those victims of abuse and violence need to have strong and dedicated advocates to bring

these cases to justice regardless of jurisdiction. This will be a long, arduous, continuing
battle.
Assistance Programs (whether initiated by the Philippine government or an international
body) for those currently in challenging situations should be enhanced.
The Philippine government should initiate to educate and prepare OFWs (and their families)
for the long absences that their families will experience. However, this initiative could
consequently become contrary to OFW promotion and may discourage many who eagerly
and blindly jump to become OFWs armed only with their dreams.
Resources should also be allocated by the Philippine government to conduct academic and
applications research, to alleviate/mitigate the risks discussed and (to learn from Beck)
anticipate new and possible risks.
Policy-makers in the Philippine government should formulate a global safety protocol and
tie into formal and informal support systems that can be implemented among OFWs
moving forward.
Another idea that requires exploration is a participatory mapping exercise (Ushahidi-type)
that will document OFW incidents worldwide. Not only will this exercise spatially locate and
allow analysis of high-risk zones, but can also eventually be a tool to allow for a possible
launching point for an earlier incident response or intervention.
Past history has led into the present situation, which has resulted in the dispersion of OFWs
worldwide. This would also no doubt play a role in future local or global events. It would
be a good assumption to believe that the Filipino dispersion everywhere, is here to stay,
and issues concerning OFWs merit continuing investigation.
