project 1.

LABresearch center
3rd year work at swanbank mining site while at Queensland
university of technology.

LAB Research centre proposes a new framework for the Ipswich

post-mining site which focuses on the idea of Green Economics. This
idea is inspired by the idea of recreating value that the mining once
gave this region but proving a more sustainable approach. Green
Economy is defined as an economy that results in reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, and that aims for sustainable
development (investment) without degrading the environment. Also
promotes the idea of natural capital and sustainable ecology having
economic value1.
The LAB project focuses on creating a central hub for biofuel production, with a focus on research and development of new sustainable
Biomass (to create biofuel) that can cope with dryer environments
such as Ipswich. The Research hub will become the main catalyst for
the development of this area as it will become the Leading Australian
Biofuel (LAB) centre.
The concept retains a focus on sustainability as it provides a new industry that strives to produce and protect. Green corridors throughout the site as well as just outside, provides permanent habitat for
fauna. While in harvesting areas soil and habitat damage is lessoned
by employing new sustainable harvesting techniques.
The infrastructure of the project is all about improving the vegetation, both productive ecology and protective ecology. To maintain the integral infrastructure
the project focuses on three main principles:
1. Treatment of Geology: creation of new topography and management of

Project 2. London royal Docks Urbanregeneration

3rd year Design work while on exchange at the College of Art Edinburgh, Scotland UK.

The design of our urban water park

was based from desire lines that run
through the docklands between important nodes. This gave us base geometry to begin designing with. As we
added more layers on top, such as the
airport public safety zone the structure
for our park became realised. The desire lines also dictated how we would
break up the park into different spaces. These spaces became the green
infrastructure providing opportunities
for exciting new activities.

project 3. LANDSCAPE PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT Stirling

Collabrative project with Fraser Orr, Sophie Fisher and Emma Young. Students at Edinburgh Collage of Arts.

3rd year Planning work while on exchange at the

College of Art Edinburgh, Scotland UK.
Concept:
Our analysis influenced the basic concept development. The
strategy refocuses on the River Forth and works to tie together
the landscapes
along its course. Centering around enhancing ecological systems, we aim to achieve a self sufficient, sustainable landscape that connects
people with nature. Encouraging people to take an active role
in their environment through art and architectural interventions, education
and recreational activities we will aim to increase the productivity of the landscape whilst providing a unique identity and
atmosphere. The
experience of landscape will further be enhanced by connecting people at all levels: micro, medium and macro.
Stradgey:
Our concept, enhancing the social and environmental ecologies, led us to develop a scheme for four different landscape
systems. These would
then be united using the river as the fundamental corridor and
architectural interventions operating on a social level. This will
help to secure a
common narrative and identity for the landscape.

project 3. LANDSCAPE PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT Stirling

Integrated Proposal
The four ecological enhancement strategies, forestry, peat bogs,
agricultural biomass and self-sufficiency, are brought together on
a social level through architectural interventions along the course
of the river.
This aims to involve people on a micro to macro scale. Viewing
platforms incorporate the wider landscape and context, bridges
enable connection on a medium scale, whilst boardwalk brings us
directly to the textures and detail of the landscape character.
All these interventions are composed of locally sourced materials,
using the existing platform at Flanders Moss as a precedent.
Visuals express seasonality and how people can engage with each
identified crossing point.

project 4.

reimagining the entrance to brisbane city

2ND year work regernation of brisbane square at Queensland
university of technology.
Reddacliff wharf precinct invites exploration and discovery by allowing users to
play with topography to find vistas around the site. Brisbanes unique social,
cultural and environmental elements are conserved and celebrated to allow
users to find resolution in sense of place. The public realm has become pedestrian orientated by providing an inviting, dynamic and flexible space for all user
groups. By embracing the rich connections between surrounding cultural and
entertainment precincts the site acts as a gateway into and out from the city.
Aim: Establish the site as a dynamic entrance into the city and enhance the
connections between
surrounding precincts and within the site to allow for easy way finding and universal usability.
Aim: Create an inviting, flexible and dynamic destination that promotes pedestrian usability and
engagement
Aim: Create an inviting and exciting place that celebrates the distinctive social,
subtropical environmental and cultural elements that are iconic of Brisbanes

project 5. NerveArts

on little street

2ND year work regernation of little street at Queensland

university of technology.

This concept explores the idea that laneways are the nervous systems
of the city, both as a network and energy givers. This concept uses
the metaphor of a nerve impulse to explain how the laneway functions
and provides energy to its users. In addition the concept explores the
ways in which people can be energised by the arts.
The Arts, give people energy in the way that they have shown to
change peoples moods, help with cognitive processing and new ideas
can be experience visually. The site is a nerve, which feeds the system, energising peoples minds with art.
The laneway has two states resting potential or active potential. Resting potential is the inactive stage when an stimulus (activity) is not
happening. However when a stimulus does act on the site it becomes
active potential, causing people to enter and engage with the site.
The act of people interacting with the site creates energy thus ultimately energising and vitalises the city. Energy can be created by organised events or spontaneously when passer-byes decide to start a
stimulus. As the stimuluses are only temporary the foundation design
of the laneway had to be flexible and accommodate a varied amount
of activity. The foundation is structured to represent a nerve network
and directs people around the site to important nodes. Another important aspect of art is that people gain more energy while physically
participating with art. This notion has driven the structure of the concept. Where the heart of the laneway id the most high intensive energy experience, with stimulants allowing you to physically create or
alter the artwork. While as you spread out to the corners of the site
the art activates become more passive. Food will be another stimulus
to used to active the site. This activity will encourage different users
at different times to stay in the site.

project 5. NerveArts on little street

project 5. NerveArts on little street

The main building in the site provides

a free space for emerging arts to practise and share their talents with the
rest of the community. The laneway
is very family orientated as the workshops held during the day will provide
education in the arts to younger users. In relation to landscape theories
the concept has provided seating
areas, with the idea of prospect and
refuge and allows for both Sociopetal
and sociofugal arrangements. The site
is also very open allowing for natural
surveillance by people passing by and
residences in the apartments in front.
The site also encourages the local users to take control of the site as activities allow they to impact and change
the site to their liking, for example the
graffiti wall and art displays.

extended backyard - raymond park

!st year work regernation of raymond

park at Queensland
university of technology.

project 6. extended backyard - raymond park

Currently, Raymond Park is hidden and separated from the wider community, acting more
as a throughway than a destination. The project, Extended Backyard, is inspired by Brisbanes outdoor lifestyle and the need for a
natural space for adjoining houses and the
78% of local residences living in apartments.
The aim of this project is to reconnect the

park with its residents by creating inviting

and fun activities that may potentially draw
more than the immediate community. Extended Backyard creates links between private and
public spaces, creating a multipurpose realm.
it incorporates motifs of a backyard and introduces them into a new public realm, thus

providing familiar and inviting spaces for

users. This project uses vegetation, formal and informal path systems to direct users
into different activity hubs. Each activity
hub us set us to encourage interaction and
collaboration between user-groups which promotes community development.

The Hall of Harmony sits

separate to the main museum, as a limited access
only for people who want to
retreat from the sound museum. inside it still explores the idea of creating
silence so that the internal sounds of the human
body can be heard, the outside of the hall of harmony
