Course Description:

This beginning reading course is designed for


students to build their vocabulary and begin
developing comprehension skills. Topics from
everyday life and popular culture will be presented.

Evaluation Criteria / Policies


Students will demonstrate proficiency on all Core Course Performance Objectives at least to the
75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the
College Grading System:

Students receiving an S grade must retake and complete the

If you miss a test, contact your instructor immediately to schedule a make-up test. There are no
make-up quizzes, but at the end of the semester, your lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

Standing Policy, Academic Honesty Policy, Student Rights and Responsibilities and other
policies relevant to their academic progress.
Attendance Policy
You must attend 80% of the classes to pass the course. You must come to class on time and stay
until the end. Three late arrivals or early departures is the same as one absence.
Cell Phones and Text Messaging
Cellular phones and text messaging are prohibited in the classroom. Turn off your cell phone
and put it away during class.
If there are special circumstances which require you to keep your cell phone turned on, please
speak to your instructor at the beginning of the class for permission to keep your cell phone
on vibrate. This permission is only given in special cases.
