Beauty Contest
The annual Beauty Contest for

will be on May 24 at 10 am, in

meeting, and Opening Day
activities.

categories: ARFs and
Everything Else. Voting by your
fellow members.

NEW NOISE RULE

At the AGM, a revised Noise
Rule was proposed. It has now
been adopted.
Be it resolved that:
The flying of excessively
noisy models at the field is
prohibited. Excessively
noisy models are those for
which the noise level is
above 98 dB at 3 meters.
The measurement
procedure shall be: With the
model running at full power,
the measurement will be
taken at the specified
distance from, and at 90
degrees to, the centerline of
the model placed on the
ground at the flying site, on
the right hand side,
downwind from the model.
The microphone will be
placed on a stand 30 cm.
above the ground in line
with the motor. No noise

reflecting objects shall be

nearer than three meters to
the model or microphone.
Turbine powered aircraft are
exempt from this rule.
Helicopters are exempt from
this rule until such time as
the club develops an
effective procedure for
measuring the noise level of
helicopters.
Visiting flyers are expected
to comply with this rule,
consequently all invitations
and posting of club events
shall specify that the noise
rule is in effect. The rule
shall also be posted on the
club website.

It should be noted that throttle

limits are a valid tool for
controlling the noise level on
models which would exceed the
allowable noise level at full
throttle. That is: The model
would be tested, and the rpm at
which the allowable noise level
was reached noted. The throttle
then would be reset to limit the
in-flight rpm to the test rpm.

Presentation to Al by Zone Director Brad Egan

Al Cordy was recently honoured by MAAC with a Lifetime Achievement

Award.
At a luncheon held in his honour, Al was presented with the award by MAAC
Zone Director Brad Egan. Al was also presented with a control-line model that
he flew in 1957, and which had been restored to operating condition.

IF you have any concerns that

your aircraft may be too noisy,
ask to have it tested with the
club noise meter.

Membership
At the end of 2013, there were
40 paid up members of the club,
including six Affiliated Flying,
two Junior, and one Honorary.

There has been some

discussion about replacing our
shed with a new one, perhaps a
steel container that would
provide more security for club
equipment. Let the Directors
know what you think.

Buddy Boxes
The club will be purchasing
some new buddy boxes to
improve our ability to provide
instruction to new pilots.
