Course Description
The course will give students further experiences with statistical information and summaries, methods of designing and
conducting statistical studies, an opportunity to analyze various voting processes, modeling of data, basic financial
decisions, and use network models for making informed decisions.
Textbook:
Advanced Mathematical Decision Making
Notebook Semester 2 2010 Edition
(binder) $25.00

*If students do not write in the Notebook, and return it in good

condition, they will not be charged the $25 fee. Students may
complete work on a separate sheet of paper or make a copy of the
page to prevent writing in the Notebook.

Resources: Please visit the class Edmodo listed (group code listed at the top of this page) for
online resources, helpful websites, and additional information.
Materials: Textbook, 3-ring binder, pencil, highlighter, markers or colored pencils, notebook
paper, graph paper, ruler, and a minimum of a scientific calculator (TI-36X Pro or TI graphing
calculator is recommended). Bring all of these materials every day.
Grading: Each students semester average will be computed using the following percentages:
Tests
40%
Quizzes
20%
Tasks/Classwork/Homework
20%
Final Exam/SLO
20%
Methodology: The following will be used to create a diverse learning environment: A variety of formal and informal
assessments, technology integration, differentiated strategies, integration of multiple representations, emphasis on
real-life applications, and making connections with content in other subjects or mathematics learned previously.
Classroom Expectations
Behavior expectations:
Goal: A positive, comfortable, and enjoyable learning experience for every student every day.
1. Exercise respect and courtesy for others at all times.
2. Leave all food and drinks in your locker (water is fine) we want a clean, pest-free, environment.
3. Stay seated unless permission is given to do otherwise.
4. Appropriate classroom language and voice volume should be used at all times.
5. Remain actively involved in class until dismissed by the teacher (including taking notes or working on assignments)
6. All cell phones or similar electronic devices are to be out of sight at times when those technologies are not necessary
for the activity or task. Any cell phone or similar electronic device that comes to my attention will be taken up.
7. Dress appropriately; Refer to the student agenda for the dress code.
8. Observe all other school rules.
*School procedures, policies, consequences and disciplinary actions can be located in the student agenda.

Academic Expectations
1. Arrive with all necessary tools for learning. Supplies must be brought to class every day.
2. Assignments will be checked on a regular basis for completion and accuracy.
3. Missing/Late Assignments: You are responsible for making up all work missed when absent. Any student that is
absent must turn in all previously assigned work the day he/she returns. Missing and late assignments will be
entered as a grade of zero in the gradebook until turned in. Assignments not turned in within 5 days will remain a
zero. Unless returning from an absence, late daily assignments will receive partial credit.
The 1 Rule: Many assignments will be given in class and collected upon leaving class that day. If you are in
attendance and choose not to hand in the required assignment you will be given a 1 as a grade. If you receive a 1
there will be no make up for that assignment. It is a representation of the bare minimum and you will receive a grade
that represents the bare minimum.
The 0 Rule: If you miss class and fail to turn in an assignment you will be assessed a 0 in the gradebook. You will
have 5 school days to make up any 0 that you receive. Once your 5 days has expired you will receive a 1 which
cannot be made up. Be responsible enough to keep up with your work and turn in missing assignments.

4. All work must be shown in order to receive any credit.

5. Label all papers with name, period, and date.

Quizzes and Tests

Test dates will be announced in advance. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.
You must schedule a time before or after school to make up a missed test. All missed tests must be made up within one
week of the test date. It is the students responsibility to schedule a make-up test with the teacher. Students can retake
a maximum of two tests per semester if they did not achieve their desired score only after completing activities that
would demonstrate additional practice on the material covered on the test. Please refer to the Request to Retest
form located on Edmodo.
** A student who pulls out a cell phone, IPod, or similar electronic during a quiz or test will receive a 0%.
Extra Help
Extra help is available before and after school. The Math Lab in room 222 is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to
8:25 am and 3:50 pm to 4:15 pm. The Math Lab is staffed by peer tutors who are members of the SCHS Math Team. I
am also available after school almost every day for extra help. Please see our Edmodo page for additional information.
