English I Syllabus

Ninth Grade Curriculum:

This course presents a survey of literature from multiple genres. Students study the significance of historical context, as well as literary devices and
terms, while they practice and develop critical reading skills. Students practice all forms of writing (creative, persuasive, analytical, etc.) with emphasis
on clarity, logic, and the ability to write for a purpose. Students plan, draft, edit, and complete compositions on a regular basis. The conventions and
mechanics of the English language are continuously reviewed and practiced in order to facilitate the writing process.

TWCP English I Level Make Up Work and Late Policy

It is the students responsibility to record assignments, due dates, etc. If a student is absent or knows that they are going to be absent, it is the
students responsibility to check my website and see me for make-up assignments.
An assignment is considered late if it is not turned in when I ask for it (this includes turning an assignment in during advisory or at the end of the
day).

Daily work is accepted late for a 25 point penalty each day the assignment is not turned in.

20 points will be deducted for each day a long-term major grade assignment is late (up to 5 days late).

Make up work must be completed and submitted following the guidelines established in the TWCP student handbook.

For example, students absent for 2 days (excused absences only) have 2 days to complete make up work (all daily work, quizzes and
tests). Note: This does not apply to long-term major grade assignments.

Students absent for a UIL-sanctioned event must pick up all assignments and turn in work before the missed class period.

Remind 101
Remind 101 is a website that provides a safe way for teachers to text message or email class room announcements to students and parents. It is a free
service; however, standard text messaging fees do apply. The service can be stopped at any point in the year. I will not see your phone number and you
will not see mine. Remind 101 serves only as an alert system. No conversation can take place. You may visit www.remind.com for more information and
to register your phone and/or email. It only takes a few seconds.

To begin receiving classroom alerts, send a text to (925) 308-9040 with the following message: @millerlev
