Casey Marshall- Letter to Ban Ki-Moon

Dear Ban Ki-Moon,

Your work as the Secretary General of the United Nations has been valued and looked at for the
past years youve worked in the position. Living in a globalized world is vital for the societies of
where we live, and I think the United Nations sees that. Living and functioning through a
globalized world means that we are friendly with one another, and although were from different
areas, we can all work together as one for the things that are needed and desired by the people.
Its makes trade within different regions able to happen, and it lets us see how other peoples
cultures are and let us learn from them as a whole and influences our own. Being globalized
keeps war from occurring between one country in the United Nations to another, and makes it
so that if one goes at war with a country outside of it, its inferred that they have friends to
support and have their back. Living globalized is essential in dealing with the work force, and
creates jobs for people in many areas, typically finance, that wouldnt be there in a country
lacking globally. Because more people are employed, it makes the poverty levels also decrease
a major amount. Technology is also a given in dealing with modern countries. It created better
education for kids, makes it easier to communicate with other foreign areas, and much more.
However, as vital as living in a globalized world is, no country became global over night, and it
looks as though it is worked on everyday to make different countries in the world function as
globalized as possible. I saw that you traveled to India on January twelfth of this year (2015) in
order to address the global challenges they hold in dealing with poverty, climate change,
terrorism, and displacement. I also could see you made an approach to the Indian council of
World Affairs by calling the country to try and drive peace, fight for human rights, and also lead
on the countries sustainable development. In sharing ideas of ways to make a change, such as
using renewable energy in order to create huge business opportunities and trying to stop
terrorism through bringing up the Counter-Terrorism strategy, I believe that its good the
challenges and problems in India are being addressed, and that you can make it aware to India
that working towards globalization more so in their culture would benefit them and the other
countries throughout the world in the long run. A countries way of changing its cultural manner
and evolving into becoming more globalized takes a lot of work and an extremely long time. This
is shown by what you addressed to the Indian people dealing with their human rights policies.
You had brought up the essential need for the people to share the spoils of growth through
Mahatma Gandhis teachings of all being equal and not discriminating based on the caste
system. Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his life in order to try to make India change, and see the
world and people through his eyes. Though he had a large influence on the people, it is shown
that things have not changed to the way he absolutely wanted it to, and it has been around 67
years since his existence. The caste system is illegal, but still is used to discriminate one group
from another in everyday Indian culture. Ban Ki-Moon, your work as the United Nations
secretary general is very much so appreciated by the people, being globalized is extremely
important. I hope to hear from you soon.
From,
Casey Marshall
