means the hole in the lens has widened. Letting in a small field of depth. As you can see only the middle ish of the bench is in focus the rest is blurry. This gives an really affective feature where the photographer has purposely wanted people to realise the detail of the bench in particular.
Whereas on this image the aperture is
fairly small. This means that the depth of feel is big because the hole in the lens has gotten tiny. So a lot more things are in focus through out the entire photograph. Most regular images retaken either on holiday or on a night out on a phone or compact will look like this with a bug depth of field, because the photographer just wants to capture a moment instead of take a professional shot.

WHAT IS DOF? ( DEPTH OF
FIELD)
Depth of field is a range between areas of an
image being and not being in focus. The picture on the left of the flowers has a shallow depth of field as only the main flower in the middle is in focus. This may be to create an effect not because of the quality of the lens. On the other hand the right image has a larger depth of filed as the other 2 flowers and the grass is a lot more focused. When theres a large depth of field the hole in the lens has gone really small when theres a shallow depth of field the whole is bigger.
WHAT IS APERTURE? Dictionary definition: Aperture : noun opening, hole, or gap.
plural noun: apertures

ceiling synonyms: opening, hole, gap, space, slit, slot, vent, passage, crevice, chink, crack, fissure, perforation, breach, eye, interstice; More technical orifice, foramen a space through which light passes in an optical or photographic instrument, especially the variable opening by which light enters a camera. "a refracting telescope with an aperture of 3 inches"
How aperture changes the depth of field?
The aperture is the size of the whole in the lens. Its what the setting is called on a camera. And the f number is the measurement. So a large aperture would be a big hole with a small number this would have a shallow depth of field meaning only one thing generally in the centre of the picture will be in focus. If this aperture is changed to a large f number with a small number leaving everything in
HOW THE PHOTOGRAPHER
COULDVE GOT A SHALLOWER DEPTH OF FIELD.
They could have zoomed in or
taken the photo closer to the girl to have the for and back ground blurry The photographer couldve changed the f number to around 4 or 5 making the aperture massive.
PROBLEMS WITH LARGE
DOF! Problems with a picture taken with for example f22 there can be a lack of light, so the picture will be very dark. And can suffer from camera shake this is because:
o When the lens has to focus on every thing In
the image in can take a while to do so and if you dont have a steady hand and it moves slightly it can disturb the image when the shutter closes. o It also isnt that easy for the camera to focus and something that tends to happen is that the lens doesnt have the capacity to do so many thing so the photo ends up a little darker than if the f number was 8 lets say.
