Taming the Tongue

Cynthia, Celine, Riella, Abelhard

The Soccer Scene

Happens in soccer games at lunch or in PE time.

It depicts people that are frustrated and angry at Abel.
He egoistically wanted the ball for his own and score.
When Abel failed to score, all of his teammates gave the I
told you so response.
They mock Abel because of his inability to score and his
egoism.
He had been dribbling without passing to his teammates,
who otherwise could score.

People could say bad things because:

theyre frustrated,
they view others as people not worthy of
respect,
underestimation,
they think itll be fun,
making others feel bad, or
to not make the person do the same mistake.

Why?
James 3:5 - 5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet
it boasts of great things.
James 3:6 - 6 And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the
tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire
body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by
hell.
James 3:2 - 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not
stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the
whole body as well.

How should we react and solution

Be patient and slow to anger. Pray and ask God
earnestly for us to have patience.
Avoid quarreling and conflicts at all costs by showing
gentleness and politeness to others.
Let no words that comes out of you mouth be
destructive. Let us build others to be better.
Pray for guidance and read the Bible. Pray to diminish
the desires of the flesh.

Bible Verses to support

Titus 3:2 - To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle,
and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.
Galatians 5:16 - But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify
the desires of the flesh.
James 1:19 - 19This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone
must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths,
but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it
may give grace to those who hear.

good fruit.

The Bullying Scene

This scene depicts bullies verbally harming the victim.
In this case, the reason is because the victim has a
funny/nerdy appearance, or the victim seemed to
humble herself (does not show that she has power in
her actions).
It happens in schools, including SPH. It can happen
any time.
People can bully to gain popularity.

People could bully because:

they think it would be funny,

only looks from the appearance,
they want to gain popularity,
they want to be respected, or
the victim is annoying.

Why?
James 3:8 - 8 But no one can tame the tongue; it
is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.
James 1:26 - If anyone thinks he is religious and
does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart,
this person's religion is worthless.

How should we react and solution

Be gentle and wise.
Do not look at appearances. Accept new students to be
friends.
Realize that bullying wont make you look better than them.
View others as human beings. Treat others as you want them
to treat you.
Sit down and think the consequences of bullying others.
If the persons attitude is the problem, then you and probably
your friends can kindly ask them to change.

Bible Verses to support

James 3:13 - 13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show
by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
Psalm 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up
anger.
Luke 6:31 - And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
1 Samuel 16:7 - But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look on his
appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him.
For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
John 15:12 - This is my commandment, that you love one another as I
have loved you.

Wisdom is peace loving.

The Cussing Scene

The scene depicts a person that cuss another student
when she accidentally hit the male student.
Swearing is more and more becoming a behavior to
teenagers and children alike.
When it already is a behavior, it can cause us to swear
without thinking.
It happens in SPH and could happen anytime.

People could cuss because:

by accident (spontaneous reaction),

a mindset or behavior,
want to look cool,
because they are angry with the person that
causes the problem, or
because the person is having a bad day.

Why?
James 3:2 - 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If
anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a
perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as
well.
James 3:8 - 8 But no one can tame the tongue; it
is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.

How should we react and solution

Do you very best in holding your tongue. Practice
speaking polite words.
What caused you to develop such behavior? Eliminate
those things.
Think about our mouth. Do we use it to bless God also?
Realize that we are Gods temple.
Study more about the Bible.
Spend time with a friend or a trustable person to keep
you on track and not saying swear words.

Bible Verses to support

James 3:9-10 - 9 With it (the tongue) we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have
been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My
brethren, these things ought not to be this way.
Psalm 39 :1 - To the choirmaster: to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. I said, I will guard my ways, that I may
not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, so long as the wicked are in my presence.
2 Timothy 2:16 - But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,
2 Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training in righteousness,
1 Corinthians 3:17 - If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy,
and you are that temple.
Hebrews 10: 24, 25 - And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not
neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as
you see the Day drawing near.

In the end...

Psalm 141:3
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the
door of my lips!
Psalm 101:3
I will not look with approval on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do;
I will have no part in it.
