George Washington

president from 1789 to 1797


Background
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, at his familys
plantation on Popes Creek in Westmoreland County, in the British colony of
Virginia. George, the eldest of Augustine and Mary Washingtons six children,
spent much of his childhood at Ferry Farm, a plantation near Fredericksburg,
Virginia. As a teenager, Washington, who had a natural ability for mathematics,
became a successful surveyor. Surveying expeditions into Virginia earned him
enough money to begin owning his own land. Washington made his only trip
outside of America, after his trip he was infected by smallpox which left him with
permanent scars.
Economical
The Treasury Department the first Secretary of the Treasury was Alexander
Hamilton. Washington stated that U.S. commercial or trade agreements should not
favor one country over another. Instead, he insisted they should be flexible enough
to be changed from time to time or even abandoned. Washington then appeared to
not say his earlier statement about honoring the 1778 alliance with France.

Domestic and Foreign Policy/Issues


He supported a good relations with other countries but also did not like
favoring in foreign conflict, Washington worked hard to set an example of fairness,
and integrity. There was only 11 states and there was no president so the new
president should do foreign business. Also that his actions would likely determine
how the future presidents were expected to govern.
Constitutional Issues

In 1787 George Washington was convinced to attend the constitutional


convention it was unanimously elected. The Convention also known as the, the
Federal Convention, or the Grand Convention at Philadelphia, met in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania from May 14 to September 17. Delegates gathered to correct the
various problems that had happened while the newly independent nation was
operating under the Articles of Confederation following the independence from
Great Britain.

Effect of this persons presidency on American subgroups and


minorities
George Washington and Henry Knox believed that Native Americans were
equals but that their society was lower class. Washington made a policy to
encourage the "civilizing" process. Washington had a plan for civilization which
were justice toward Native Americans
regulated buying of Native American lands

promotion of experiments to civilize or improve Native American society
presidential authority to give presents
punishing those who violated Native American rights.
Precedents
Washington left one of the most biggest legacies of any American in history.
He is known as the Father of His Country, his face appears on the U.S. dollar bill
and quarter, and hundreds of U.S. schools and towns, and also as the nations
capital city, are named for him. Washington's trust on department heads for advice,
similar to his war council during the Revolution War by his actions and words
Washington also was for two presidential terms, and lasted until 1940.
Political Party Affiliation
Washington was not connected to any political party. When Washington ran
for president, there were no national political parties, at least not in ones the we
have today.
Public Perception (Generalized)
Washington action with such desirer ended the Revolutionary War and he
was declared a national hero.face appears on the U.S. dollar bill and quarter, and

hundreds of U.S. schools and towns, as well as the nations capital city, are named
after him.
Judge/Evaluate
well to all the research we have done he is seen and the father of this nation
and he is known as one of the best leaders in the american history. So we can
consider him as the best president and general.
