Time Frame:

Our goal is to help students develop self-confidence and increase


their self-esteem in order to deal with the issues of imaginary
audiences. We want to increase awareness of how others perceive
this issue by emphasizing respect and empathy towards others.
1hr. 30 mins. (2:45-4:15)

Welcome-Introduce ourselves (mention snacks )


Confidentiality; establish and go over ground rules
Ice Breaker: Hand-Shake- Students will partner up in groups of
two and come up with a handshake that they will share with the
group.
Pre-Test (self-esteem inventory)
Educate on topic (Prezi)
Adolescent egocentrism
Monkey business video (YouTube)
Discuss Elkind and imaginary audience
Share some of our own personal experiences with imaginary
audiences
Open it up to the group for discussion
Ask students how they think they can improve their selfesteem/self-awareness
Give them tips/ideas to improve self-esteem (see handout)
**Should discussion not go as planned and people dont seem
interested, we will do back-up activity of Who am I? (see handout)
Post-Test (self-esteem inventory)
Wrap-it-up
Provide resources
Closing activity 3 Affirmations-each student writes down three
good things that happened to them that day or three positive things
about themselves.
Post-its: give each student post-its (2-3) to write
positive/encouraging words to randomly leave for people to see
(emotional pay it forward)remind them to be agents of change.

Pre-/Post-Test will be given before and after the lesson, and the
tests will be used to compare how effective the lesson was by the
change in students answers before and after.
