Day: 1 (43 min)


Activity: Introductions: Watch the 3 haunted house videos (See Materials), Discuss
What is Scary? and The difference between scary and creepy, Have students
provide examples.
Journal Assignment: What is scary? (Have done for tomorrow)

Day: 2 (43 min)
Activity: Ground plan lesson: How do you draw a ground plan? Include
measurements, diagrams, icons, precise nature, and scale. Have a demo prepared
so you can show students what a completed one will look like and then walk them
through piece by piece. Have students begin creating a draft of the drama room.

Day: 3 (43 min)


Activity: What is scary discussion from journals. Put together a large list of what
scary/creepy/spooky things we could do in our haunted house. Begin a concept
design. Ensure students write WITH you on the concept. If possible, have this class
in a classroom so you can have a google-doc working with the students.

Day: 4 (43 min)


Activity: Ground plans and concept designs putting together. If possible, have this in
a classroom. This is where you can begin separating students into groups to design
a room for the haunted house. Have students working in small groups to take a
concept from day 3 and apply it to a ground plan.

Day: 5 (25 min)


Activity: Continue working on Ground Plans.

Activity: Finish ground plans and submit for marking. (See Assessment Plan for
rubric)

Activity: Begin acting workshops: Character development. Take the concepts from
the plans and come up with a list of characters for those kinds of rooms. Work
through building a characters body motions today.

Day: 8 (43 mins)


Activity: Developing a characters vocals. Take the movement from yesterday and
apply it to todays character. Work through volume, accent, tone and mood of the
characters voice.
Journal: What is a character? Why do we create them? What elements do you most
enjoy creating?

Day: 9 (43 mins)


Activity: Developing multiple characters. Have students apply what they know from
the past two classes to develop a list of three characters. Work through milling
activities, introduction walks, and improvised scenes.

Day: 10 (25 mins)


Activity: Completing our character lists. Have students submit a list with their top 3
character choices to you. Cast list will be posted on the Drama Room Door on
Monday morning.

Assignment: Story & Character Analysis: This should be treated as a fun assignment
for the students benefit as actors. Over the weekend, look at your character and
how they fit into a haunted house. What story could go along with that character?

Day: 11 (43 mins)
Activity: Narrative Workshops: Have students developing stories in class of what
would happen in a haunted house. By the end of class each student should hand in
a rough copy of a narrative structure (mountain) that we could use in the house.
Journal: Why is it better to have a coherent theme to a haunted house instead of
just basic scares? What can it teach you as an actor/designer?

Day: 12 (43 mins)


Activity: Choosing the story. Today is the day where we will go through some story
ideas (chosen by teacher from the narrative workshops). We will vote on favorite
ideas and Mr. Jesse will take all into consideration for the Haunted House. Final
Script will be decided by end of today.

Day: 13 (43 mins)


Activity: Final script released for students. Costume design begins. Work through
how a costume rendering works with students. Include basic measurements, colour,
and sample photos if available. Work time available for costume renderings. Create
your own costume.
Journal: Why are costumes so important in a haunted house? Explore one that you
have created and what effect it would give your character.

Activity: Complete costume renderings. Hand in at end of class. (See Rubric in
Assessment Plan)

Activity: Go over costume renderings. What is do-able, what is not. Set costumes in
rough draft for each student. Begin a list of things needed for the haunted house.

Activity: Begin Rehearsals. Have students grouped by cast in each class and have
them work together to develop things that will happen in their rooms. Perform with
the last 15-20 minutes left of class. Critique.

Activity: Rehearsals. By end of today, have everything set in stone for what is
happening in each room.

Activity: Rehearsals. Remind students that they are needed from 12:00-6:00pm.
They should bring lunch and dinner (if possible). Put together the haunted house.

Day 20: Performance Day.
Students will need to arrive by 5pm NO LATER for getting prepared for the
performance. Doors open at 6pm and close at 7:30pm. Clean-up will take place
from 7:30 until it is completed. Students will be given roles in their rooms to ensure
everything is cleaned up in an orderly manner.
