Interviewer: If you were to describe Corazon Aquino in one word, what word would you

choose?
Wong: Integrity. Corazon Aquino had integrity. She didnt have political experience, but she had
integrity. And that was really important to me.

Interviewer: How old were you when Corazon Aquino was in presidential office (1986-1992)?
What was your status?
Wong: 21 years old. A student.

Interviewer: How may have Corazon Aquinos policies affected your age group and/or status?
Wong: Its a sign of a new beginning. We grew up only knowing one president [Marcos]. We
were martial law babies, basically brainwashed. It was a dictatorship disguised as a democracy.
After Corazon Aquinos presidency, there was freedom of speech. Corruption was still there, but
much better off than Marcos.

Interviewer: How was Aquinos presidency compared to Marcos presidency?

Wong: Well, Corazon Aquino didnt abuse her power. She restored democracy.

Interviewer: Do you think Aquino was an effective president?

Wong: Yes, because she led by example. For example, when she was in power, she knew that
the country was in an economic crisis, and she led by example by as much as possible
maintaining the budget. Also, she was a woman, and didnt get intimidated by the military. She
asserted that in a democracy civilian authority was more powerful than the military.

Interviewer: What do you believe is Corazon Aquinos greatest, lasting legacy?

Wong: Democracy. She restored democracy and unity among Filipinos.
