English 10: Oral Presentations
Rationale: It cannot be argued, we need to focus on our oral communications
skills in order to adapt to a changing economic environment in which collaboration
is essential. Students will demonstrate confidence in a range of activities including:
setting a purpose, generating an idea, planning and rehearsing a presentation, nonverbal communication, style and tone. This is an opportunity to showcase your
personality and interests in a safe setting.
Choose ONE of the following THREE options for your presentation. Your
presentation must be a MINIMUM of TWO minutes long and a maximum of 8
minutes.
The options:
1. Poem Recitation:
a. Pick a poem that has significant meaning to you. Present to the class
what it means and why you choose it.
2. Selections of Literature:
a. Pick a section from a book/novel/magazine article/short story/opinion
piece/or any other form of literature and read your selection to the class.
Try to choose something that will appeal to the class and has meaning for
you.
3. Personal Topics: (choose one to discuss):
a. Discuss a situation or time in your life when you have done something,
not because you believed it should be done, but because you were
trying to avoid embarrassment or ridicule.
b. Discuss something for which you are grateful.
c. Discuss a situation or event which significantly changed your
behaviour.
d. Discuss the effect a prized possession has on your life.
e. Consider yourself and discuss an aspect that you take for granted. Tell
us how you could begin to appreciate it.
You will be marked according to the following:

Presentation skills (loud, clear voice, good eye contact, good pronunciation,
good expression, etc)

Content demonstrates preparation, organization, and depth of thought.
