Newsletter for January Month of Humbleness

Dear parents Assalamualaikum.


We will be covering the following material during the coming month.

Language:
8B This month we are working on literature circles. Students will be reading The Giver and working in
groups of five on various aspects of reading comprehension. Please note that this unit will make up their
reading, writing and art marks. Although they are working in groups, students are assessed individually on
their jobs within the group.
Reading jobs/assignments are due weekly on Thursdays.
8A Students have been working on monologues. Reading monologues, presenting monologues and writing
monologues. Final presentations and all written work are due December 15 th.
Math:
This month we will work on Circles.
Test and quiz dates will be posted on the calendar online.More specifically we will learn about radius,
circumference, pi, area, volume, and surface area in relation to working with circles and cylinders.
Quiz, assignments and test dates will be posted on the calendar online.
Science:
This month we will be learning about Fluids. More specifically we will learn about types of fluids, their
properties and applications.
Quiz, assignments and test dates will be posted on the calendar online.
Social Studies:
This month we are beginning Unit 3, chapters 7-9. Students are examining migration and cultural fabric of
Canada. Students are encouraged to think critically about movement within Canada and international
migration.
Chapter 6 assignment due December 15th.
Islamic Studies:
Akhlaaq (8A): We will look at the concepts related to gambling, bribery, corruption, stealing and cheating.
Akhlaaq (8B): We will be looking at proper behaviour and morals, specifically earning a living and
moderation in living..
Hadeeth: We will be looking at simple ahadith that students will memorize and discuss in relation to their
meanings, context and implications in our daily lives.
Fiqh: We will be learning about Zakaat.
Aqidah: We will learn about Prophet Muhammed and develop a proper understanding abouttheir role and
his impact on the world which we live in today. We will also look at why he is important and relevant in our
everyday lives.
Physical Education:
Girls: Basketball, soccer, fitness. Our central focus is positive attitude, teamwork, and participation.

Boys: Basketball, Hockey, Badminton and Volleyball. We will also continue to look at personal safety and
injury prevention along with good decision-making skills.

This month we will finish learning Surah Hashr with proper recitation along
with translation and have a test on it. Furthermore, we will learn the last 10 Surahs of the
Quran. We will also memorize Sanaa and Durood-Ibrahim with a proper understanding of
their meaning.
Quranic Studies:

French: Grade 8 students will be learning about how to plan a trip in other Canadian cities and to make a
report of their visit , using the past tense. Learning road signs in Quebec and Montreal will be included too.
Another grammatical skill that will be taught will be the right preposition use to indicate a place or a
person's place. Daily individual questions will be asked to the class about what each one did yesterday or
last week-end., so as to practise past tense. This unit is the core content of the curriculum that will ease
their transition to grade 9. Bonne chance!
