Action
No-Mans Land
Divide students into two teams and give each team 10 balls.
Assign each team a portion of the playing area slightly less than half; designate a small area between the
two sides as no-mans land, where no players are allowed.
Place several different objects (e.g., an empty box, a little pylon, balls) inside no-mans land.
Scatter several beanbags on each side of the playing area.
On a teacher signal, students throw the balls underhand, aiming at the objects in no-mans land.
The object of the game is to move the objects in the centre toward the opponents side, out of no-mans
land.
The only way the objects can be moved is by throwing balls at them. Students work together to move as
many objects as possible.
A&E - Action
Teacher observation with anecdotal writing of students demonstrated knowledge relating to throwing
underhand, and of associated strategies, using Teacher Resource 6: Sending Skills and Strategies
Rubric
Cool-Down
Students gradually decrease their heart rate to a resting rate by participating in the activities below.
Students should also stretch the body parts that have been active throughout the lesson. See
Appendix for stretches.
Students stand as straight as a pencil and tighten all their muscles, making their whole bodies as stiff and
tight as possible. Then they relax.
Students next tighten one body part at a time: one arm, both arms, one leg, both legs, buttocks, whole
body.
Check students tightness by trying to move or lift their bodies to see if they stay tight or go loose and
bend.

Consolidation
Students complete a Four Finger Scale (see Appendix) of their ability to demonstrate the lesson
Learning Goals. Did they meet the lesson requirements? Students show four fingers if they
demonstrated the Learning Goals at a high degree of effectiveness, three fingers if they demonstrated
them with considerable effectiveness, two fingers for some effectiveness, and one finger for limited
effectiveness. Review the word effectiveness if required.
A&E - Consolidation
Teacher observation of students perceived ability to meet the lesson Learning Goals
Students continue to play No Mans Land, using the strategies taught in previous lessons to increase
their success.
Provide balls of a variety of different sizes, shapes and textures for students to throw.
Notes to Teacher
Make sure that the boundaries are clearly marked for No Mans Land.
