OSU STUDENTS ANNOUNCE DIVESTMENT CAMPAIGN
Columbus, Ohio OSU students, alongside faculty, alumni, and community
members, announced today the launch of the #OSUDivest campaign.
The #OSUDIvest campaign aims to raise awareness among the student body of
Ohio States complicity in Israels violation of the human rights of the Palestinian
people. The campaign will call on OSU to divest from corporations that engage in
or otherwise profit from policies that oppress and marginalize Palestinians,
including: military occupation, illegal home demolition, theft of land and natural
resources, arbitrary and indefinite incarceration without trial, coerced sterilization,
and racially discriminatory laws, among other human rights violations. These
corporations include, but are not limited to, Boeing, Hewlett Packard, Caterpillar,
General Dynamics, General Electric, and United Technologies.
The #OSUDivest campaign plans to gather signatures from undergraduate
students during the first months of spring semester for a referendum on
divestment for human rights. If the campaign gathers the required number of
signatures, the student body at-large will have the opportunity to vote directly on
the issue later in the semester. #OSUDivest encourages students to join the
campaign and share their thoughts.
