Hi all,

Earlier today, President Obama proposed a new round of offshore oil and gas
exploration leases for the US Outer Continental Shelf. While the proposal
accompanied protections for a biologically important part of the US Arctic Ocean, it
opens the door to exploration in other areas, including along parts of the US
Atlantic coast.
Weve posted a media statement from Margaret Williams, WWF-US Managing
Director of Arctic Programs, to our site in response to todays announcement. Its at
https://www.worldwildlife.org/press-releases/wwf-statement-on-proposed-obamaadministration-oil-and-gas-leases . An international version of the statement is at

More about the government proposal is at http://www.boem.gov/Five-YearProgram-2017-2022/ . And, more about the Arctic protections can be found at

Many thanks,
Chris
