ABSTRACT

Load frequency control plays an important role in power generation. The most important mode
of operation of a power system is symmetrical steady state mode. Due to the fluctuations in the
system frequency the system runs out of synchronism .This leads the system to transient mode
of operation. This work deals with a novel method of quenching transients of load frequency
of a Two area power system. In this Thesis work Conventional integral controller, fuzzy logic
controller and Adaptive fuzzy logic controller are used to control the load frequency of a Two
area power system.
A comparative study between four controllers; the Integral controller, the Fuzzy controller, the
Genetic Algorithm and the proposed Adaptive Fuzzy logic Controller has been presented. The
time-domain simulations of a Two area power system is performed using MATLAB/Simulink.
The simulation results of the proposed Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Load Frequency controller
(AFLFC) are compared with that of the conventional fuzzy controller ,the conventional integral
controller and the Genetic Algorithm. Comparison shows that the proposed controller is more
effective in reducing the frequency deviation transients and to keep the interchanged power at the
scheduled value.
