group.Onedaytheyallescaped.Alvinplacesanadvertisementinthelocal
newspaperdescribingtheChipmunksandpromisestopay$1,000foreachChipmunk
toanyonewhoreturnstheChipmunkstohim.
Beatrice,Alvinsneighbour,findsoneoftheChipmunks.Shekeepsitwarmandwell
fedinashoeboxovernightandthentakesittoAlvinshouse.Beforeshecanreach
thehouse,theChipmunkescapesfromtheshoebox,runsawayfromher,andthen
wrigglesthroughaholebackintoAlvinshouse.Charlessearchesdiligentlyforthe
Chipmunksfortwodays.Hespends$10onbusfarestravellingtodifferentpartsof
thecity.WhenhefindsoneoftheChipmunks,hetakesithomewithhimanddoesnot
immediatelyreturnit.DavidfindsanotherChipmunk.Unfortunately,ithasbeen
savagedbyafoxandisnowdead.DavidtakesthecorpsetoAlvin,whorefusesto
payhimanything.Ethel,Alvinssister,findsanotherChipmunkinherroom.She
givestheChipmunktoAlvin,whorefusestopayheranything.Alvindecidesthat,as
oneoftheChipmunkisdead,thereisnopointinreassemblingthemasadancing
group.Accordingly,heplacesleafletsaboutthecitycancellingthepromiseofa
reward.CharlesdoesnotseetheleafletsandreturnstherathefoundtoAlvinlater
thatday.Alvinrefusestopayhimanything.
