HUMAN BODY

TISSUES

By Summer Mallard

MUSCLE TISSUES
Function of the muscle tissue: Muscle tissue has a ability to relax
and contrast and so bring about movement and mechanical
work in various parts of the body.
Types of muscle tissues: Smooth muscle tissue. Skeletal muscle
tissue. Cardiac (heart) muscle tissue.

Smooth Muscle Tissue.

Cardiac (Heart) Muscle

Tissue.

Skeletal Muscle Tissue.

NERVE TISSUES
The types of neurons are: Unipolar Neurons. Multipolar
Neurons. Bipolar Neurons.
Function of the nerve tissue: Nervous
tissueisspecializedtoreact to stimuliand
toconduct impulsesto various organs in the body
which bring about aresponse to the stimulus.
Nerve tissue can be found in the brain, spinal cord and
peripheral nerves that branch throughout the body.
This tissues are made of specialized cells called neurons.
A nerve is made up of many nerve cell fibers (neurons)

Connective tissue function: It

supports and binds other
tissues in the body.

CONNECTING TISSUES
Loose

Dens
e

1. Proper connective tissue:

Loose Connective Tissue (Areola, Adipose & Reticular), Dense

Connective Tissue (Regular, Irregular & Elastic).
.
Specialized Connective Tissues:
2. Cartilage (hyaline, Elastic & Fibro)
3. Bone (spongy & compact)
4. Blood

EPITHELIAL TISSUES
Apical Surface surface of an epithelial cell that faces away from the basement membrane
Basal Surface The bottom layer of epithelial tissue that attaches to the basement membrane
Glandular epithelium specialized cells to produce and secrete substances
Keratinized stratified squamous skin. top cells covered in layer of keratin. slough off by friction. serves as protection
Pseudostratified Columnar single layer column like cells, appear to have multiple layers but DO NOT; movement of
substances, linings of respiratory passages.
Simple Columnar Single layered column like cells some cillated; for protection secretion & absorption; Linings of uterus
stomach, gallbladder and intestines
Simple Cuboidal Single layer cube-shaped; secretion, absorption
Surface of ovaries, linings of kidney tubes, ducts and glands
Simple Squamous single thin layer; filtration, diffusion, secretion
alveoli of lungs/walls of capillaries, linings of blood vessels/ventral body cavity
Stratified Columnar Many layers of cells but only the surface cells are are columnar; deeper layers are cubodial shaped;
male urethra and phyarynx
Stratified Cuboidal multiple layers of cube like cells; protection/secretion
Linings of large glands and pancreas
Stratified Squamous Many layers of flattened cells; protects resists abrasion
epidermis of skin, oral cavity, esophagus
Transitional Epithelium Multiple layers of cells which appear cuboidal when not stretched, but squamous when stretched;
found in the urinary organs
