The meaning of the UN emblem is that is symbolizes peace from the olive branches,
and security. This is the biggest main concern to the United Nations.
2. There are 192 nations apart of the IN emblem today.
3. How might you describe the U.N. General Assembly? What happens when it
convenes? I would describe the U.N, general Assembly by its primary role is to
discuss issues and make recommendations, but it has no power to discuss and
make recommendations. When it convenes it elects a new president each year from
among five regional groups of states.
4. Yes it does matter, but some peoples vote matter more than others.
5. Four of the five headquarters are located in NYC. Also it has 6 official languages.
6. The main goals of the UN is too to expose the world to internal peace and security,
and to develop friendly relations against nations, and for everyone to work together
to improve lives of poor people. Also to conquer hunger, disease, and illiteracy.
Another goal is to respect eachothers rights and freedoms.
7. Two challenges would be that a peacekeeping operation risks becoming a party to
the conflict, and being drawn towards enforcement action. Also a risk is that it can
keep people away from the thought of peace
8. The League of Nations was an international organization in Switzerland created after
the First World War to provide a forum for resolving international disputes. It relations
to the united nations by they both were searching for a peaceful nation.
9. Cooperation among nations to form a peaceful nation is an example of globalization.
Also everyone works together for form a better world to live in.
10. The League of Nations failed because after the Abyssinian crisis the league
gradually died. Many counties just left the league as in Italy, etc. they knew it was
failing. The league met in Geneva and abolished itself.
11. The United Nations was created on October 24, 1945. When it was first created it
was to help cooperate on specific matters.
12. 51 countries originally joined the U.N.
13. The League of Nations was considered the forerunner of the League of Nations
because the League of Nations had way more issues and was considered
disorganized and had many problems even though they were a lot alike.
14. The counties involved in the U.N.s Security Council were China, France, US, UK,
and the USSR. What it did was discuss problems throughout the world.
15. The structure might be problematic by the power to veto was given to all of the
counties involved in the council, and peace was not established very well.
16. South Sudan is the newest member of the U.N. Vatican and Taiwan are not
members of the U.N. because the Soviet Union disintegrated and didnt want them to
be a part of the U.N. any longer. Since colonies became more independent
membership grew rapidly.
17. The U.N. was funded by members of the nations contributed to most of the costs.

Security Council

Addresses the issues given to them from the General


Assembly. They take the lead in determining the
existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression

Economic and Social


Council

Is in charge of the economic and social work of the U.N.


The Council has 54 members, elected by the
General Assembly for three-year terms

International Court of
Justice (World
Court)

To help resolve disputes between groups and individual


people. Also to help provide truth, honesty, and justice,
and protect every single person living. Helps elect
judges. 15 judges are elected by the council.

Secretariat

Carries out the diverse work of the organization. Also


administers programs laid down from the U.N. Works
include media reactions.

Trusteeship Council

Supervises the government of trust territories and to lead


them to independence. Made up by only 5 members.

19. Three different goals and or groups these organizations help to promote would be
UNICEF, UNDP, and IAEA the U.N.s nuclear watchdog, and the International
criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia for war.
20. The leader of the U.N. is Ban Ki Moon of the Secretary. It counterbalancings the
strengths of the U.N by he is not a part of the United Nations so it gives it a downfall.
21. I feel like the future of the U.N will be both good and bad because they try to keep up
with peace, but also because its not as strong. But the U.N will always be better the
League of Nations I feel. The United Nations does have a place in the world today
because it helps maintain peace between the nations, and also makes peoples lives
better. It also keeps a big war from happening which probably would if the U.N.
wasnt a group. To improve they could try and get other nations to join to obtain more
peace throughout the world.
