Statement of Work

Australia

Date May 10, 2014

Client Australian Vocational Network (AVN)
Job Name AVN Learning Objects

Rationale and Purpose

This project is based on Case Study 24: Margaret Janson, Developing Learning Objects
for Adult Learner, by Rod Sims and Naomi Waldron.
The Australian Vocational Network (AVN), through its funding body the Australian
Education Committee, commissioned Third Eye Media to develop a suite of web-based
learning objects for deep sea oil exploration and underwater drilling. The critical
element and measure of functionality for the learning objects would be active learning
contextualized in a problem-based environment. The AVN specifications require the
materials to integrate interactivity for engagement and learning.

Project Scope

Learning Object Structure

1. Each module is to be designed as a learning object so that it is:
SCORM compliant
Self-contained
Deliverable through a learning management system
2. Each module is to contain an associated work-based context that immerses the
learning in a realistic, problem based environment that engages the learner to use the
content objects to solve the problems.
3. Within each module there are to be smaller learning objects that cover single
learning objectives. These objects are to be repurposable, content-rich, and include a
self-test at the end.

Project Objectives
The modules must exhibit effective teaching and learning approaches as demonstrated
by the following features:
an educational model that recognizes an active, constructive role for learners
learning activities that engage the learner in active processing rather than mere
knowledge acquisition
resources that are visually attractive, motivating to use, and organized logically
representations of authentic, real-life settings in preference to textual
descriptions

Project Close-Out Checklist

Initial and Date
1. Check the AVN Project Scope

Do the modules demonstrate effective teaching and learning

approaches and incorporate all desired features?
2. Check the Modules (Learning Objects)

Is each learning object, SCORM compliant, self-contained, and

deliverable through a learning management system?

3. Check the Schedule

Is every stage and module being completed on time?

4. Check the Budget

Are all resources being allocated and budgeted according to the

budget plan?
5. Analyze Variance: Compare Estimated to Actual

Are tasks being accomplished as projected? Are variances being

resolved easily?
6. Address Scope Changes

What has changed? What needs to be changed?

7. List, Track, and Try to Resolve Open Issues

What are the continued open issues? How can they be resolved?

8. Revisit Potential Project Risks

What are the current risks within this project?

9. Report Project Status and Communicate Regularly

What is the status of each module? What is the status of the

overall AVN Project?
10. Drive for Close Out of Activities and Sign Off Deliverables

What modules can be signed off and closed out?

11. Reflect: Create a List of Lessons Learned

What did you learn throughout each module? What could be done
different next time?
12. Complete Appropriate Evaluation Checklists

What has been completed? What still needs to be completed within

the timeline?
