Exhibition 2015
What is it?

A requirement of the IBs Primary Years

Programme (PYP), is that in their final year

students participate in a culminating project,
the exhibition.
The exhibition represents a significant event in

the life of a PYP school and student, synthesizing

the essential elements of the PYP (knowledge,
concepts, skills, attitudes and actions, and
sharing them with the whole school community.

Exhibition 2015
What is the purpose?
The PYP exhibition has a number of key purposes, including:
to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate

independence and responsibility for their own learning

to provide students with an opportunity to explore multiple

perspectives
to provide an authentic process for assessing student

understanding
to demonstrate how students can take action as a result of

their learning

Exhibition 2015
What does it look like at AIS?

This year the theme for the exhibition is:

How we express ourselves

and students will be inquiring into the central idea:

How people express

themselves reflects their needs,
interests and what is important
to them

Exhibition 2015
What will students be studying?

Students are required to engage in a collaborative,

inquiry process that involves them in identifying,

investigating and offering solutions to reallife issues or problems.
This years theme lends itself to students

following their interest to inquiries into subjects

such as;
Music, dance, poetry, art, photography, architecture,
fashion, song writing, flower arranging, landscape
gardening, graffiti, sculpture, interior design

Exhibition 2015
What does it involve?

Students are expected to work independently

and in collaboration with others.

The exhibition is an inquiry. This is

different to a traditional research project

because;
-students have input into the area of research
selected
-students are expected to take action as a result of
their learning

Exhibition 2015
Process and Product

The exhibition culminates in an end product;

When students communicate what they have learned,
and how they have taken action through
performances and presentations
(These will be oral, written and visual, utilizing IT, dance,
drama, video, music and mixed media),
which will take place after the school day, on Tuesday
21st April

Exhibition 2015

How much time do students spend working

on the Exhibition?

The students have already started brainstorming ideas

and thinking about concepts

The students will then spend about 7 weeks working on

their inquiries in March and April.

The students will still have some math and literacy

lessons during the Exhibition time, but the majority of

each day will be used working on inquiries.
There will be mini skills workshops that will help

inquiries progress, and will be taken by either class

teacher.

Homework

The children will have less subject specific

homework during this time.

The children should use their time at home to

research and prepare for the work in class.

The actual work should be done in class so the

teacher can keep track of progress.

Some homework in math may be given each

week.

Exhibition 2015
How is it assessed?

The responsibility for assessing the exhibition

ultimately lies with the Year 6 teachers, who will look at
student performance throughout the process as well as
what they produce for the final exhibition.

However the students will be made aware of the

criteria for assessment and asked to self-assess against
these, in order to increase their self-management skills

The Exhibition journals are an important tool for

document the work that happens during the exhibition

Exhibition 2015
What can you do?

Ultimately, this is your childs project and

they will be expected to be responsible for

their own learning. Yet, we understand
that the Exhibition is a learning process
and our students, your children, need and
deserve our support and guidance
throughout this culminating experience.
Together, we will make the journey
