The Extra Curricular Creative Arts (ECCA) Program in Continuing Education is pleased to offer a new session of
Lets Write A Novel for elementary school students Grades 4 and up at Kars on the Rideau Public School.
This 8-week after school course is a great way to inspire young writers, and improve ones skills in writing, editing, public
speaking and much more!

Course Description
Students! Everyone who aspires to be an author dreams about writing a best-selling novel. Are you one of those students? Youre
never too young to start writing. Lets Write A Novel will help you get started: find an idea, develop a plot with a believable
storyline, create loveable and despicable characters, describe a suitable setting for the story, drive the plot to an exciting climax
and resolution, and, finally, edit the completed manuscript in preparation of presenting it to a publisher for consideration. The
key to success in writing is to keep writing, to keep reading, and to open the mind to multiple learning possibilities. Lets write a
novel together and discover the joy of writing and sharing of ideas. NOTE: A minimum of 8 students is required for this
course to run.

Author Instructor Emily-Jane Hills Orford

Emily-Jane has a Masters degree in Canadian Studies from Carleton University, and a strong academic background in Canadian
music and art history. She is a published author with sixteen books to her credit, as well as a writing instructor and a piano
teacher for the Extra Curricular Creative Arts Program. Emily-Jane is passionate about communicating our vibrant Canadian
history and the achievements of exceptional Canadians to both students and adults. She has been a speaker at many schools, at
seniors residences and local writers groups such as the Professional Writers Association of Canada, the Canadian Authors
Association, the Rideau Valley Writers Guild, the Ottawa Independent Writers, and the Ottawa branch of the Ontario Genealogy

Course Schedule Classes run for 8 Tuesdays, 2:45-5:45pm, from March 31-May 19, 2015.
Course Fee $160 Course fee payment is required at the time of registration. Fees are payable to OCDSB.
What to bring? A notebook, pen or pencil and lots of creative energy. Bring a snack to eat while the instructor
introduces each class.
