Romanian (also known as Daco-Romanian or Moldovan; obsolete spellings
Rumanian, Roumanian; autonym: romn, limba romn [limba romn]( listen), "the Romanian language", or romnete, lit. "in Romanian") is a Romance language spoken by around 24 million people as a native language, primarily in Romania and Moldova, and by another 4 million people as a second language.[5][6] It has official status in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, the unrecognized state of Transnistria, the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in Serbia. It is one of the official languages of the European Union, the Latin Union, and of the autonomous Mount Athos in Greece.[citation needed]! Romanian speakers are scattered across many other countries, notably Australia, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Bulgaria, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Israel, Russia, Portugal, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
