4. Write a Four-Sentence Rhetorical Prcis:

Donna Miles, in her article. Operation Homecoming for Vietnam Pows Marks 40 Years (2013),
reports that, Operation Homecoming marks 40 years for Vietnam POWs. She first supports her
claim by first explaining the situation and giving some background as to why this was
happening, then she quotes many Vietnam POWs such as Andrew H. Lipps, and Larry Chesley,
then she explains what it was like when coming out of the plane on U.S soil by quoting more
POWs, then finally concludes how many POWs came home and what branch of the military
they were from. Miless purpose is to inform the American citizens in order to create awareness
of what happened that day and the emotions that went through the POWs. She creates a

serious and emotional tone for American citizens.

5. Believing/Doubting Game:
Believing:

The day of Operation

Homecoming was a very serious and
emotional time for the POWs and their
families. Being trapped in a camp that treated
their prisoners badly for years on end would
be hard, but using this article to create
awareness is what the American society
needs. The humility and punishments have
affected these people and they will never be
able to live a relativly normal life again.

Doubting:

The article is written to report,

thats exactly what it does, it doesnt create
any awareness of what the POWs went
through. It does bring quotes from the soldiers
that were trapped there, that doesnt do any
good because the audience will focus on what
happened to the POWs while in the camps.
The article should be more focused on the
Operation itself and what the U.S. has done
for the POWs.
