NOTICE
The Lewis County Sheriff's Department will be testing for the position of Probationary Deputy
Sheriff. The testing process will be as follows:
Applications Process - Applications will be handed out and accepted at the Lewis County
Courthouse Annex, 117 Court Avenue, Room 104, Weston, West Virginia.
Beginning February 3, 2015 at 8:00am - Must have application in by March 6, 2015 at 4:00 pm.
Applications must be complete. Late applications will not be accepted.
Physical Agility - The physical agility test for Probationary Deputy Sheriff will be on March 9,
2015 at 4:00 pm. The physical agility will be held at the Lewis County High School Complex.
(dress accordingly). The physical requirements are in the application packet. Passing the
physical agility is mandatory to proceed to the written examination.
Written Examination - The written examination is scheduled to be given on March 18, 2015 at
5:00 pm. You must present a valid picture identification at the time of the test.
Hiring Requirements
Must be a minimum of 18 and no more than 45 years of age at date of application
Must possess a valid West Virginia Drivers License
Have no criminal record (excluding minor traffic violations)
Not addicted to any type drugs (legal or illegal) or alcohol
Must be a resident of Lewis County or have prior approval from the Sheriff
Must be able to perform the duties of the position
If you have been in the military, must have been Honorably Discharged
Must pass a physical examination
Must pass a psychological examination
Must pass a physical agility examination
Must pass a thorough background check
Must pass an oral interview
Must score a minimum of 70% on the written examination.
Deputy Salary
Starting salary for an uncertified Probationary Deputy Sheriff is $36,475. West Virginia State
certified Officer or at the completion of the West Virginia State Police Academy - salary is
$37,075 per year. Upon completion of one year probation period, candidates will receive a raise
to $39,075.
