*Note: Current event articles should be no more than 7 days old by due date of assignment.
One of our key areas of focus in the course will be to understand how globalization has
contributed to what is happening currently in the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You will find an article (or online news clip that you can provide the link for) each month.
The following topics are NOT allowed: Sports, Entertainment, Crime, Editorials (Opinionbased articles)
Acceptable Topics Include:
1. Geography: Environment, Immigration, Global Warming, etc. as it relates to humans.
2. Culture: Customs, traditions, religion, etc.
3. Government: Elections, laws, court decisions, etc.
4. Technology: New inventions, Innovative ways to better our lives, etc.
5. Cooperation & Conflict: Foreign policy, trade agreements and disputes, wars, etc.
6. Resources: Natural or human resource issues between governments or groups.
7. History/Archeology: New discoveries or theories about the past (fossil finds, etc.)
Basically, any article about individual people or events that affect a small number of people are
generally not acceptable. Although a hit and run incident on 17th Avenue, a Calgary Flames loss,
or Lindsay Lohan caught breaking the law yet again is newsworthy; they are not the types of
current events to focus on.
If you have any doubt about whether or not an article is acceptable, SHOW IT TO ME IN
ADVANCE. If you complete a current events assignment on a topic that is NOT allowed, it will
NOT be marked!!! This is where #1 underneath the Important Tips is especially important.
