Objectives:
Advance level students are able to do the following:
1. Able to add synonyms to change their writing words to avoid
Redundancy.
2. Ss will synthesize different possibilities of words that can be
substituted, (this will increase their vocabulary)

Anticipated problems for Teacher:


1. Its an easy topic and there may not be a lot of activities to engage Ss in.
Solution: T will concentrate more on making the students participate rather than
presenting the concept in a teacher centered lesson. That way, Ss will be
contributing to the majority of the lesson once the T explains the definition of a
synonym.
Anticipated problems for Students:
1. Ss may naturally confuse Synonyms with antonyms.
Solution: T will emphasize on the definition of synonyms and also as CCQs
throughout the lesson so that students will be able to relate to it.

Twill turn to the first slide on the PowerPoint presentation and point to words written on the slide.

Rude, Mean
Mad, Angry

T will elicit the meaning of these words from the Ss


T will ask Ss a question regard the vocabulary presented.
1. What is common about these words?

T/S

T will go over each word and discuss the meaning of the word and what it has common with its partner word.
T will then reveal that Ss will be learning about synonyms.
T will then reveal the definition of synonyms on the PowerPoint slide:

Synonyms are words which have the same meaning or near the same definition. They can be substituted in the place of as
another word in certain contexts.

T will then show the Ss a written passage and Ss will be required to point out which words can be substituted for another
synonym.

T will instruct the Ss as the following:


Ss will be given a piece of paper and Ss will be required to find the synonym of the word that they have.
Ss will need to walk around and search for their synonym partner.
Ss will have 10 minutes to do the task

T will monitor the Ss and guide them if they require assistance.

When the Ss will find their partners, they will be required to sit with their partners and every pair will be required to read
out their synonyms at the end of the activity.

T will present the concept in a PowerPoint presentation.


T will explain the definition of Synonyms once again.

T will then show the Ss a written passage and Ss will be required to read the passage and point out to the words which can
be substituted for another synonym.

T will present several PowerPoint slides with different sentences that will require Ss to change the words to make is sound
like a different sentence with the same meaning

T will then ask CCQs after finishing the passage activity.

T will instruct Ss to do the following:


T will ask Ss to form pairs.
T will give a written passage to each pair and expect the Ss to read through the passage with their partners and substitute
words for synonyms.
Ss will have 15 minutes to complete the exercise and hand in their exercise to the T.
T will ask ICQs to ensure if the students are on track:
